If I could, I would spend all nights in the fog. Until, of course, I see someone with a hook.

Every item for sale is good for Mother’s Day

Posted in General by Bes on May 13, 2006

Mother’s Day“, that’s what I keep hearing on the radio these days. Every business wants to sell you something for your Mother. Everything that was good for Thanksgiving and Christmas is now good for your Mom. Every special occasion seems to exist only to be special for the business that will sell you something for that special occasion. Many things that can be sold will probably be sold for some Mom out there by tomorrow night.

A bed mattress? No problem, they have a mattress for your Mom. A restaurant? No problem, they have a special meal at a special price for that day. How about laser treatment centers? No problem, even they have specials for your Mom this week to let her know that you think she should get rid of unwanted hair. How about Kmart having a special on shaving blades? Yep, your Mom will like that too, let her know. How about car dealerships? They’re always ready for every occasion, including occasions revolving around your Mom. How about flowers? They have special flowers just for Mother’s day. You know, the same flowers that they had just for Cinco De Mayo. And for New Year’s. And for christmas, thanksgiving, all the birthdays, July 4th, labor day and valentine’s day.

I guess one is so busy throughout the whole year that one can only appreciate and spend time with their mother on May 15th, after spending some time shopping for her on May 14th. The rest of the year is dedicated to other more important things, like Father’s Day, Cinco De Mayo, Labor Day, Halloween, Flag Day, Easter, etc. Of course, each of these occasions deserves a few gifts too, the same gifts you bought for your Mom for last year’s Mother’s day.

How about you? What are you going to buy or do for your Mother’s day? What are you going to get from your children? Any opinion on this topic?

Here’s a picture taken on the 5th of this month, May, while driving on the 5 freeway. It was a nice day with cool breezes at random intervals, as far as I can remember.

Boy, if that isn’t the truth. Same thing for Christmas. Everything makes a great gift. And if it doesn’t make a "great gift," then it’s a "stocking stuffer."

  2. Chau :

    Hehe about Mother’s Day…

Anyways, hey, I passed by there on the freeway before! Hehehe.

  3. tim steel :

what about the items for sale in a gas station store :)

  4. birdie :

It’s insane how consumer oriented everything has gotten…but as an avid shopper myself, I have to admit that I enjoy it.

As for Mother’s Day gifts, my siblings and I send a bouquet of flowers and cook dinner/take my parents out, which is also the exact thing we do for Father’s Day. :D I didn’t get anything for Mother’s Day because my husband doesn’t believe that I’ve been a mother long enough to recieve anything. :| Oh well, maybe 10 years from now?

I find it also amusing that Mother’s Day gifts are being packaged with Father’s Day gifts.

Monkey Migraine — > Heh, yes.

Chau — > That’s interesting! Really? Going to San Diego or back up north?

Tim Steel — > Heh, those items are always for sale for every occasion. Like their hot dogs, always having special deals on them.

Birdie — > Heh, yes, it is fun sometimes. That’s a nice gift in my view; simple and no showoff that happens only once a year. Hmmm, nah, I hope you receive something starting from next year. :p

Almost all the gifts will be repackaged for the other holiday sales.
