Twitter messages that exist because they exist06.25.08

Do you have a Twitter1 account? I do, and I call it “BesZ On Twitter” among other things, sort of like saying Bob on Drugs or Bes on Sprite. Just like other things in life, Twitter is a tool that many people use without understanding why they are using it. Many people on Twitter add nothing useful to their own lives or the lives of the Twitter machines2, yet they Twitter because they can. They Twitter so that you and I can look at their Twitter and wonder “Why?” I guess I should be grateful for the existence of such people: without them, people like me would either have gone extinct long time ago, or would have never existed.

With some people posting normal and nice Twitter updates, and with many others going psycho and posting everything they do in a day and claiming that they do not want attention, Twitter is one of the best examples of how technology can be used for good things and how technology can be abused and overhyped simply because of the existence of that technology. Today I would like to share with you some different Twitter messages that people can submit to Twitter for the sole reason of increasing their Twitter count and to get more of their life details into the attention of other people. And to appear cool also.

Twittering for no reason other than to Twitter

  1. Twitter is basically an online announcement tool where you can let others know what you are thinking, doing, or anything else you wish, as long as you can fit it within the 140 word limit. []
  2. More strain on the machines :( even if it means more popularity and potential for the Twitter company. []
  3. Twitter followers are basically other registered Twitter members who have subscribed or chosen to follow your updates. Anything you Twitter is shown to those subscribers through their main Twitter page, and also through e-mail, instant messaging or cell phone updates if those people have chosen to receive your Twitter messages through such methods []
  4. Isn’t it interesting that it’s hard to find that many people who like a few things on Twitter but hate many other things, or vice versa, or that many people who look at Twitter in terms of its usefulness in life and its comparison to other existing tools which already do everything Twitter does? I am confused and find it interesting, as I think Twitter is overall a hype and brings only 2 main useful things to the table. Those 2 things can be discussed in a future article maybe. What do you think? []
  5. You did not forget the original meanings of the word “Twitter”, did you? 0_0 []

Question: Do you prefer reading online articles with or without pictures?11.10.07

Hello everyone. Today’s question is a very basic one that can affect your perception of any article you read online. On blogs or other sites, do you prefer reading articles that contain pictures of any kind, or do you prefer text-only articles?

In this article, whenever I refer to a picture, I am referring to pictures that show something from real life, and whenever I refer to an image, I am referring to the concept of images, which includes both pictures from real life and other visual art. Let us assume for this article that we are dealing with a language where the main focus relies on using text as a communication tool, and not images alone, even though text itself is a form of an image we use to come up with different meanings and sounds.

Some people can understand articles better if there is text along with pictures, as those people may either be better at having both pictures and text talk about something, instead of digesting text only. Other people may understand articles better if there is only text, as they may either be better at having text as their only focus about something, or they may have a hard time seeing pictures or may actually not be able to see and thus may be using some software to have their computers read back any online article. In that latter case, any picture description or the explanation of the picture within the html code becomes their text association1.

Articles without pictures

  1. An association with the text can happen in many ways, including using a picture or a set of words or letters. In the concept of association using a set of words or letters, I am referring to cases where a person who may have a hard time seeing may be reading the site through a browser that reads text out loud, and thus that person may associate some group of words with the article in question. For example, the picture of a person with a tattoo on his back, as shown in this paragraph, can become an association for people who can see the picture. For people who may have a hard time seeing for various reasons, I try to make available the “alt” description in the html coding or the very text itself, which in this example says “picture of a male with colorful tattoo on his back“, as an association with the text and article in question. The “alt” text exists to show a text in case the picture does not load. I like to use it so that it can be used to explain pictures to people who cannot see the pictures for other reasons also. I like using the image “alt” text area to explain an image in as much detail as possible so that everyone who comes across the image in almost any manner knows what is going on and can create an association if they wish. Most browsers allow you to hover over the image with your mouse and see what the “alt” text is, if you leave the mouse on the image for a second or two. []
  2. I will cover that topic, of whether or not having any kind of an image on a site means the site has images and is not a text-only site, in the near future. []
  3. I will cover a related topic, of whether or not having only pictures and no text can be useful, in the near future. []
  4. An association with the text can happen in many ways, including using a picture or a set of words or letters. In the concept of association using a set of words or letters, I am referring to cases where a person who may have a hard time seeing may be reading the site through a browser that reads text out loud, and thus that person may associate some group of words with the article in question. Thought: Trends of mass opening of accounts for 5 types of online services09.11.07

With more and more new online services popping up, I am getting at least 10-12 new site sign-up requests every week. I regularly wonder if many people simply open such online accounts and visit them regularly, or if they keep on opening new accounts and never visit them on a regular basis after that. Such a trend has me thinking: the online world has seen such mass hysteria of opening new accounts for different services before.

Listed below are trends of 5 different types of online services that have drawn a huge crowd after them. I have listed each trend in the order it became popular, going from the oldest and longest running trend, opening e-mail accounts, to the youngest and most famous trend today, opening social networking accounts.

Thought: On feeling obligated to comment on friends and contact’s blogs09.06.07

There is a thought in my head about an increasing trend: people expecting their friends and contacts to comment on their blogs. Many of my offline friends have blogs or other types of sites now. As time passes, more and more people tell others about their sites. Some contacts expect me to regularly participate on their sites.

From what I am noticing in several personal and non-personal cases, a slowly increasing number of people are looking down at friendships and other relationships simple because someone does not comment and participate on their site regularly.

Question: Do you consider online and offline friends to be equally important?09.01.07

Today I would like to ask a question that may affect your personal life directly. Do you consider your online and offline friends to be equally important to you?

For this question, let us limit the socially broad definition of a friend to some specific things: a friend that can help you whether or not they gain something from the help, a non-business friend in a non-monetary friendship interacting on a personal level, a friend you find important because of the value of that person and their friendship and not because of their religion, ethnicity, cultural background, political views, gender, sex, etc. Also, by an online friend, I am referring to friends we make solely in the online world. By an offline friend, I am referring to friends we make solely in the offline world.

Some people prefer online friends, while others prefer offline friends. I try to mix the two in the offline world, to hopefully achieve something that has at least some offline value to it.

5 bad trends of online friendships08.22.07

Lets be friends note, in black ink with a smiley at the end, white backgroundThe online world makes it very hard for many to realize the kind of attention and dedication that friendship needs. I am noticing an increasing trend where more and more people are claiming for have friendships, yet many of those people simply treat others like business transactions that focus only on money or actual selfish value and nothing else.

One of my closest friends is someone I know only from the online world for about 7 years, and we talk either online or on the phone, while mailing each other stuff also. Just because of that friend, I know people can be good trustworthy friends regardless of the medium of friendship, online or offline. Similarly, I have met a lot of people who have given me nothing but headaches, and these people specialize not only in headaches but also in bringing their offline problems to the online world so that they can dump such problems onto others, so that they themselves can be happy while others suffer. Still, many other people simply focus on earning money, and call anyone who can help them earn more money their friend.

Thought: How revolving communication around Skype can hurt communication08.16.07

Skype logoYesterday, I started talking to someone I wanted to interview for something via e-mail, and later was looking forward to talking to her on Skype as she has Skype. I rarely open Skype daily, so I decided to log onto Skype and leave it on, as I find it really pleasant to run into someone nice and logical online. I left Skype on and realized that it was disconnecting every 2 minutes or so. At first, I thought the disconnection was something related to my internet connection, but soon I realized that the Skype service itself was having issues; I will talk about how Skype is handling such a problem in a future article. Lucky for me and that new person, we have e-mail, so things are so far not at a complete standstill because of Skype not working. Unfortunately, sometimes tools like Skype take control of messages and the concept of communication for many people.

Because of Skype being down, many people simply cannot communicate normally. Period.

A sealed brown boxSlowly, over the course of about 15 hours, however, I found out how many other people simply cannot communicate easily outside of Skype. Majority of the people, and an increasing number of people in an alarming trend that is becoming more popular, are forgetting that a message and communication should be like a box, with the contents of the message and the actual box do not change no matter how the box is moved around or presented anywhere, similar to the box shown at the right. The rectangular box shown in the image on the right is brown, sealed with a nice tape, and ready to be shipped or opened. The box does not care whether you carry it in your hand or if you put it in a truck with other similar boxes on top of it. That is how a message should be. There is a reason why I chose a sealed box in the picture on the right, which I will explain in another article in the near future hopefully.

For now, I want to talk about how for many people Skype has ended up being more important than the actual communication or the message itself. In this article I would like to talk about some thoughts I have over this subject, and how more and more people are embracing the wrong trend of revolving the message around tools like Skype, which can be a big and costly mistake for everyone, both in the short and the long run.

An example of Skype crippling personal communication
