The Moocher’s Guide To Riding In Bes’s Car - Part 306.01.08

As of today, the following things in my car need some form of fixing: passenger door side panel, roof bumps, internal electric discharge, seat belts, actual messy texture of the seat cloth in some areas, a bit lose gas tank chamber. All of these things were working perfectly about 2 years ago. While there are some more issues with the car, all of the above listed issues exist solely because of the passengers in my car who got a ride from me: these passengers simply experimented or acted carelessly. Because of them, my car is suffering a bit. The car runs fine, but I know the problems it has, and majority of the problems exist due to careless and selfish riders.

The total amount of money to fix these issues will be at least around $2100 as of today. Are those passengers going to team up and chip in some money to come up with the total cost? Are those passengers going to chip in their share of the cost? Are any of those passengers going to chip in even $1 as of today? No. Many passengers do not even remember anymore they did anything wrong to or in my car.

So far, I have given you 14 things people do or have done in my car, in the form of Part 1 and Part 2 of this series. Today I would like to present to you 7 more things that people have done in my car in the past, things that you should avoid when in other people’s cars.

The Moocher’s Guide To Riding In Bes’s Car - Part 203.29.08

I just got a ride on a plane where the driver took me all the way from Oakland to Orange County. Of course, the driver in this case wanted to be called a pilot, sat behind steel doors, charged me about $250 for the ride, told me to fasten my seat belt from time to time, gave me a small bag of mint pretzels and a cup of water with ice, told me that she/he also acted as a cook who wanted to sell me sandwiches for 5 dollars each, told me when to turn off my cell phone and when to turn it back on, told me where to sit and how to sit and where to put my belongings, among other things.

I would like to tell you some similar things happening in my car. Last time, I told you about 7 things to avoid while getting a car ride from me. Today, I would like to tell you another set of 7 things that you can try to think about and avoid. Many of these things have happened to me on a regular basis, while some have happened once or twice.

All of these apply to you whether or not you are not a good friend, with the only difference being that I can tell good friends directly about how something affects me or how something may be unwarranted or what something may mean and imply.

This is the second part in the series.

The Moocher’s Guide To Riding In Bes’s Car - Part 101.25.08

Cars. Many of us drive them. Many of us see them. Many of us get rides from other people. When giving someone a ride, I notice a different set of characteristic in some people that goes hand in hand with the similarities they express with a group of people who get a car ride. Many times, people who get car rides either do not know how to behave, or they simply do not want to care about the driver who is giving them a ride.

Today I would like to start a 4-post series of articles revolving around things that people do while getting a free car ride, things that they should not be doing. The articles focus on people who do not know me very well, or are not friends with me. Friends can also keep these points in mind to see whether or not their own other friends like the trends and behavior mentioned here, when they themselves are involved in giving or getting a car ride.

This is the first part of the series.

6 signs of Racist-R-Us11.15.07

Racism is everywhere. Stereotypes are everywhere too. Racism and discrimination do not exist only to flow from the majority to the minority; even the minority discriminates against other minorities and majorities. Many people, if not almost everyone, is guilty of racism in one form or another. “Guilty” is an interesting word here; how can we know what is right or wrong when we do not even know what is right or wrong? On top of that, how can someone be guilty of something that is probably always disagreed upon by certain people?

Today I would like to show you 6 trends I am seeing in people that results in many people becoming full-time racists. Here are 6 practical signs that you may be discriminating, and that you may in turn be having a racist attitude towards someone or certain people. By racism, I am also referring to discriminating, hating, and having a stereotypical mentality against someone or a group of people.

10 reasons to avoid American Airlines10.13.07

American Airlines: the pride of America, according to many company officials. However, the service that American Airlines gives is varied, from being satisfactory on many levels to being bad on others. Sure, American Airlines has flights going all around the place, but the headaches that come with American Airlines make your head spin in unwanted directions also. In this article I would like to tell you 10 reasons I am going to avoid flying on American Airlines in the future.

Brief summary of my flights

To summarize a basic intro to this entire article: I had to travel to 2 different directions in 2 weeks. First, I had to go from San Francisco to Los Angeles and then back. Second, 2 days after I got back from the first trip, I had to fly to Texas and then see if I could travel to Missouri, and then to Alabama. If I could not find a connecting flight to Missouri, I was to fly straight to Alabama from Texas. The 1st and the 2nd trip were to last around 5 to 6 days each.

I am hoping I do not miss any important details, and that I remember the exact number of hours and details so that there is not any confusion below. If something doesn’t make sense, please let me know and I will have to eat a lot of chocolate and try to remember some more details.

Thought: Trends of mass opening of accounts for 5 types of online services09.11.07

With more and more new online services popping up, I am getting at least 10-12 new site sign-up requests every week. I regularly wonder if many people simply open such online accounts and visit them regularly, or if they keep on opening new accounts and never visit them on a regular basis after that. Such a trend has me thinking: the online world has seen such mass hysteria of opening new accounts for different services before.

Listed below are trends of 5 different types of online services that have drawn a huge crowd after them. I have listed each trend in the order it became popular, going from the oldest and longest running trend, opening e-mail accounts, to the youngest and most famous trend today, opening social networking accounts.

Image of a yellow taxi cab miniature toy with the driver and 2 passengers inside it - the words taxi are written in blue on the outside of the taxiMany taxi drivers can cause a lot of stress for people around them. I see many taxi drivers act so aggressive daily, even when they do not have any passengers. Question: Do you have any single contact listed on more than one of your online instant messaging or e-mail accounts?09.02.07

Today’s question is a “weird” one, according to someone who saw a draft of this question. Have you added any same contact on more than one of your instant messaging or e-mail accounts?

By having the same contact in multiple accounts, I mean adding the same friend to different address books in the different e-mail accounts you may have, or the more than one instant messengers you may be using. For example, I have several people listed on all of my Gtalk, Yahoo Messenger and my AOL AIM accounts. Thus, I see the same people on all 3 accounts.

Question: Do you consider online and offline friends to be equally important?09.01.07

Today I would like to ask a question that may affect your personal life directly. Do you consider your online and offline friends to be equally important to you?

For this question, let us limit the socially broad definition of a friend to some specific things: a friend that can help you whether or not they gain something from the help, a non-business friend in a non-monetary friendship interacting on a personal level, a friend you find important because of the value of that person and their friendship and not because of their religion, ethnicity, cultural background, political views, gender, sex, etc. Also, by an online friend, I am referring to friends we make solely in the online world. By an offline friend, I am referring to friends we make solely in the offline world.

Some people prefer online friends, while others prefer offline friends. I try to mix the two in the offline world, to hopefully achieve something that has at least some offline value to it.

5 things you can use to inconvenience your neighbors08.28.07

Image of different neighbor houses models - small houses in different colorsI have had many neighbors my entire life. Many were good, many were bad, many were interesting, and many were weird. There were many bad experiences, many good experiences, and many interesting and many weird experiences. Some times, you can try to let things roll and fix them yourself. At other times, you can take action and talk to other people involved to arrive at a solution. In this article, I would like to point out 5 things that you can annoy neighbors with.

Each of these things in the list below is a personal observation and personal experience, both from long time ago and from the last few weeks. The first point below also describes an example explicitly to show how sometimes we can mistakenly be inconsiderate to others, or how we can be inconsiderate while considering someone else to be inconsiderate to us for the same thing. When I say neighbors in this article, I am referring to roommates, house mates, building mates, complex mates, street mates, etc, basically anyone who lives near or around you even periodically.

For this list, I would like to focus mainly on the things, and very lightly on some direct and indirect solutions. The best solution for such situations is to solve any inconvenience yourself, talk to your neighbor to discuss the issue politely or to bring it to their attention politely while fostering your neighborly relationship, or a mixture of all of those.
