One of my favorite, yet corny movies of all time is “While You were Sleeping.” It is a romantic comedy with laughter and love. The main character, Lucy, played by Sandra Bullock has always dreamed of visiting Florence. She even has her passport ready, although she has never left the country, just in case she gets the opportunity to go to Florence. Ever since watching that movie I have dreamed of visiting Florence Italy.
But, the real reason I want to visit Florence is not just for the movie, it’s for the gelato! Did you know for many people Florence is the Gelato capital of the world? I have a passion for that creamy and decadent stuff, and I can only imagine how delicious and amazing it tastes directly from Florence!
With so many gelato shops in Florence, I can hardly choose just one. But if it came down to it these 3 shops are the ones I would venture out of my way to visit.
1) Gelateria La Carraia
Gelateria La Carraia has been rated one of the best shops to get gelato on many blogs and websites, this place serves many, many different flavors. The employees are said to be friendly and patient and give generous portions. Good customer service and great gelato can’t ask for much more!
2) Vivolvi
Vivolvi is also a highly recommended gelato shop. Reading about it they are described as being a little more pricey than other shops, but is made with natural ingredients. To me I would rather pay for better quality and ingredients I know are not synthetic or man-made. Vivolvi is second on my list to visit!
3) Carapina
The Carapina gelato shop is my last place I would love to visit. They too use fresh and natural ingredients and thus changing their flavors daily. Constant flavor changing is a dream for me! I’m always willing to try something new and exciting. This shop is one I hope to visit someday when I travel to Florence.
When I plan my trip to Florence to live out my gluttonous gelato dream, I want to be sure to stay somewhere comfortable and relaxing. I will be sure to stay in one of the vacation apartments in Florence right near one of the above or other awesome Gelato stores or markets, where I can feel at home and at ease at the same time. All that gelato eating will I’m sure make a girl tired, so I know staying nearby will be divine!
Gelato is not just ice cream, it is a creamy rich dream on the taste-buds! I hope I can travel to Florence soon, my gelato is starting to melt!

Friend visited Florence last year, she actually found it quite inferior to other choices around Italy. Rome offers much more options and less tourist rip offs. And if you want to truly experience Italian culture go to the south.
I’ve been in Tuscany a couple of times and may confirm that it’s one of the world’s must-see places! However, to make this recommendation a bit bitter – you have to carefully select the places to eat, otherwise you’re gonna believe that you can get better Italian food in US that in Italy! Being there for the first time, I was shocked about the food quality but quickly realized that you mustn’t go to the “tourist-targeted” places. It’s a sort of a rule of a thumb all over the world but somehow I believed Italy may be an exception. Well, it isn’t… Yet, if you find a decent eating spot, you’re gonna remember it for long!
