Bloggers choosing between Blog Readers and Blog Commentors05.28.07

I am seeing an increasing number of bloggers reward and interact with blog commentors more than blog readers. While it is true that a blogger can communicate easily through comments with a commentor, it is also true that a blogger can communicate easily through a post with the reader. Because of the thirst for more blog traffic, many bloggers are slowly starting to choose between blog readers and blog commentors, creating a thin line between different site visitors.

RAW Prizes - April 9th-13th, 200704.05.07

[update - April 9th, 2007 - 5:02 pm PST]Valerie suggested something which prompted me to update this post with more info on how I will choose a winner. Thank you Valerie. :)[/update]

April 9th is approaching fast, so I want to post this before time runs out. I am offering at least 5 prizes to you during the Reader Appreciation Week that runs from April 9th to April 13th of this year, 2007. You do not have to do anything to participate. Do not even comment on my site if you want to win prizes, if you have already commented before. I will choose a winner and that winner will choose from a list of many prizes. If you are the winner, you can also tell me what you want and I will do my best to rob a bank or some nursery or something to get the prize for you.

I recently announced the Reader Appreciation Project that promotes reader appreciation, and the RAW for April of 2007 is a good way to start spreading the concept a bit further.

Announcing Reader Appreciation Project03.18.07

Because of your support in everything I wrote, even if you disagreed with some things, I am happy to announce a new project : Reader Appreciation Project (RA Project). The Reader Appreciation Project intends to do one thing: appreciate people more. It will hopefully help us appreciate our blog readers more. Since all bloggers are also readers of their own comments, this should help everyone. You can also read what the RA Project is all about.

Are you treating your blog commentors like slaves?03.13.07

Comments are important“; we hear that all the time. While asking people to leave comments is nice, not feeling obligated in any manner to your blog readers is not nice. In my view, if someone takes the time to leave you a comment, they deserve something back. It is the same in our offline lives; if you keep begging someone to say something to you, you should be prepared to listen and respond to that person with respect. People who leave comments are not our slaves. We should treat commentors with respect by doing them favors the same way they do us a huge favor by writing for us for free.

Jumping to premature conclusions over Vizu Blog Readership Report03.12.07

I saw a “Blog Readership Report” [PDF file] by Vizu circulating the web last week that shared the results of a research that observed how blog readers acted around different blogs. While the study was a good way to find out more about human behavior on blogs and I recommend similar studies in the future, I caution against jumping to conclusions without understanding how to read such reports. Many bloggers consider the study as being the definitive proof that everyone online acts the same way as the majority of the people in that study did. I cannot think of a more premature reaction to such a survey.
