5 ways people copy The Reasoner07.03.07

Someone recently told me about how they love the way I run The Reasoner. A day after they told me that, that nameless-blogger took a lot of the techniques I use here on The Reasoner and applied it to her own blog, while telling her readers that she has come up with those ideas herself.

I have been blogging in various forms for more than 7 years, so it is interesting for me when someone who earns a living from their blog or someone who copies me comes along and starts claiming blog expertise as their skill.

Another person I talked to about this told me to go ahead and talk about the things that people copy from my site. It sounds weird, since I usually do not brag about myself. So, after about 15 days of hesitating and rewriting this repeatedly, and after pointing out only the things that are clearly copies from my site, I would like to present to you here 5 ways many people copy The Reasoner. Some people give credit, while others simple act as if they were born with these skills. This post is going to be the very definition of bragging on many levels, so brace yourselves!

Thought: On John Chow ranking higher on Google than ProBlogger03.21.07

John Chow recently announced that his site JohnChow.com site ranked higher on Google than ProBlogger when searching for the words “Make Money Online.” Most people on John’s site are excited over the results, since it means that using anchor text efficiently helps in search engine ranking. For me, here is the most important point that is missing from the post and the comments: would visiting John’s site actually give me more useful information than ProBlogger when it comes to making money online?

Working hard to appear before another site on search engines can be good, though that also means that you are promising a reader that your site also delivers more value than the other site.

I recently read a post by Daniel in which he talked about having emergency posts. This prompted me to comment and realize that scheduling posts in advance can be go along with having emergency posts. This concept can be applied to the offline world too. Planning and starting your tasks early can help reduce stress and avoid problems you may face later on.

Observing role models is better than mimicking them02.16.07

Many people consider successful people to be their role models. A role model is a person you usually look up to when you need guidance, advice or help. Online, many people look up to a few bloggers like ProBlogger and CopyBlogger in order to improve their own blogs. Many people also try to mimic everything these types of bloggers do in order to attain the same kind of success. Unfortunately, copying successful bloggers will never result in success. You need your own unique blogging personality and mentality, that you can apply tips and advice from your role models to, in order to be successful.
