If I could, I would spend all nights in the fog. Until, of course, I see someone with a hook.

3 Reasons Why Daily Blog Tips Sucks07.08.07

With everyone wanting to blog these days, it can be hard to find something practical and concrete to apply to a blog right away in order to improve things. Daniel from Daily Blog Tips runs a nice ship called, surprise surprise, Daily Blog Tips, also known as DBT. DBT aims to help bloggers by telling them about a blog-related tip on an almost daily basis.

I like blogging, so it is interesting to see Daniel try to offer daily tips to bloggers to try their hand at different aspects of blogging. Here are 3 reasons why I think Daily Blog Tips sucks this year. Why? Because these 3 reasons are the very reasons Daily Blog Tips is and can be a very important part of the blogosphere, and the reasons I think people should be more like Daniel than like an A-lister who only wants to manipulate readers.

Question: Do you like using MyBlogLog?07.07.07

Today’s question revolves around your view of a specific blogging service: MyBlogLog. At its simplest, MyBlogLog is a service that is supposed to help you track specific people who visit your website, along with those people’s details like name, gender, any associated website, etc. Keeping that definition of MyBlogLog in mind, do you like using MyBlogLog?

A while ago I talked about 5 things that MyBlogLog can improve. I can see some of the improvements being implemented that I recommended to Eric at MyBlogLog, like the revamped MyBlogLog community pages, where the focus is more on the related blog itself through the use of RSS feeds instead of having the RSS feed be a non-significant part of a community.

Following are some pros and cons of using MyBlogLog. If you can think of any other things, please let me know and I will update this list and give you credit.

5 Reasons Most Movies Are Not Impressive06.26.07

I love watching movies at the movie theaters. The screens are big, the sound is louder and better, and I get to immerse myself more into the world created by the movie than is usually possible if I watched the same movie on a DVD at home. I also get to experience the reaction of others around me, which tells me how the movie appeals or does not appeal to certain people and their specific personality traits.

It seems, however, that as I watch more movies, the more bored I am with most of them. The surprising element in many movies has gone; majority of the movies depend on loud and sudden terror sounds in order to surprise you, and that is the only part of the movie where you will feel impressed by anything.

Following are 5 reasons many movies are boring. Please note that I decided to choose movies as they came to mind, so I may not have talked about movies that I usually talk about in person.

Beware! Some very basic movie spoilers ahead, and also my Amazon links.

5 Reasons You Are Not Poor In 200706.19.07

I got a call today from someone I had lent a few thousand dollars in 2003. That person had not contacted me for a while, so it was interesting for her to call me today and say something along the lines of “I’m sorry we haven’t talked for a while. I wanted to say thank you so much for helping me in the past, and I wanted to start paying you back starting from next year in small payments, if that’s ok.” Of course, that was ok for me since I know her a little bit, and I know she has good intentions. I think that is a nice thing to do: to call me and update me out of the blue.

Her phone call got me thinking today: How many people consider themselves poor overall? The person above was not poor but had a real emergency where she needed to borrow money to pay her ex-husband for her child’s custody. But, how can you realize whether or not you really are poor, even if you do not want to ask someone else for money?

In order to help people realize whether or not they are poor, I have created here a list of 5 reasons, or things, that probably hint that you are not a poor person in the year 2007. Some points are very specific, while others are general.

To make sure this list is fair for everyone, I will also list at least one exception to the rule, where the reason listed may not apply to some specific person.

10 signs you are a naïve blogger06.04.07

Everyday, many bloggers are making a lot of mistakes when it comes to blogging. However, these bloggers keep making such mistakes on a regular basis, while feeling proud, because they notice many other famous bloggers doing the same thing. Because of such mistakes, many bloggers tend to be naïve in the world of blogging, since they do not understand the concept of blogging, and the impact their blogging has on their blogs and the blogosphere. Making money through a blog does not guarantee that one is a professional or a mature blogger, so I believe it can be good for us to realize certain things that may make us naïve in our blogging efforts.

Following is a list of 10 signs of naïve bloggers that Ronald helped me create. These signs can be present in many people and do not guarantee that someone is naïve. However, if any of these points are the main focus of a blogger, or the focus of their obsession, then chances at that the blogger in question is more of a naïve blogger instead of a useful blogger, for the blog readers.

Question: where do you see your blog in 1 year?05.19.07

This should be a simple and fun question to think about if you run a blog. Where do you see your blog in 1 year?

Imagine doing the exact same things that you currently do on your blog for the next 12 months: what do you see different on your site in a year? Do you even see anything different on your site by then? This can be both what you actually see, and what you hope to see.

There are many different aspects of blogging that can measure the performance of a blog in a certain time frame. Following are 2 different types of things you can focus on, when imagining where your blog will be in a year: user participation, and blogger participation.

5 Things MyBlogLog Needs To Improve05.15.07

Discover who visits your favorite sites (including your own)!” That is what MyBlogLog states it will help you do. More and more bloggers are using MyBlogLog to find out who is visiting their sites. While the business model is so interesting that Yahoo acquired MyBlogLog, the MyBlogLog model’s value to users is itself limited and under a lot of testing. Wide adoption of a service or a product does not guarantee or mean that a service is definitely useful; it simply means that the service or the product has done good marketing and is gaining more subscribers or customers.

Question: do you hope, or do you expect your readers will comment on your blog?05.12.07

This should be a fun question to ask yourself, just like the last question about whether or not you would skip some activities to blog instead. When it comes to getting comments, do you expect your readers to comment on your site, or do you hope your readers will comment on your site?

Expecting a comment should be like paying a person for a car and expecting that person to give you the car. Hoping for a comment would be like talking while standing on a busy street somewhere, and hoping that some listener nearby would interact with you.

Question: what daily activities would you skip for blogging?05.11.07

This should be a simple and fun exercise if you think blogging is an integral part of your life. How important do you consider blogging when comparing it to daily activities in your life?

If you had 10 minutes before you had to leave your house to do something, and had a choice to either blog about something important, or do one of the following 10 things, which one would you do? Which ones would you be willing or not willing to to give up, and why?

Personal Blog Subniches04.30.07

Personal blogs are everywhere. You probably run into personal blogs everyday where people talk about their daily lives. Majority of the personal blogs do not make any money, whereas a few personal blogs make more money than some offline jobs. Even though people are focusing more and more on writing about specific niches on the internet in order to make money, personal blogs are being overlooked unfairly as having any potential for growth.

In reality, personal blogs probably have the highest growth potential compared to almost any other blogging niche on the internet due to one simple fact: the personal blogging niche has not been categorized into smaller, more specialized personal blogging sub-niches, the way life is categorized into smaller thoughts and feelings everyday.
