If I could, I would spend all nights in the fog. Until, of course, I see someone with a hook.

Thought: On the possiblity of treating online friends like offline friends03.02.07

A friend from Southern California e-mailed me today asking if I wanted to go see a movie with them tonight. I replied back reminding them that unfortunately I could not do that as I was more than 400 miles away in Northern California. We kept e-mailing each other for a while, which made me real something. We were acting like online friends, not being able to interact face to face with each other. We were making up for such an absence of having physical access to each other by sending each other e-mails. Somehow, it seemed that online friends could in fact be treated like offline friends on many levels, since treating offline friends like online friends did not seem to be creating any issues.

Are your reactions based on how others react?02.28.07

I saw two men fighting for some unknown reason in the Costco parking lot yesterday. Some people were running away from them, yelling “Security!!” while others watched from a distance. People who were watching from some distance would start walking further away whenever they saw people near the fight stepping back a bit. That exact moment made me realize something: the only reason most people were trying to get away from the fight was because they saw other people around them doing the same thing.

Thought: On sticking to the point in your posts02.27.07

Last week Daniel suggested that blog writers should stick to the point in their posts. While I agree with the point, I realize that sometimes it is hard to figure out what to share and what to avoid writing in posts. Things you write in your posts may be extremely important to you, but your readers may find them boring. So what should you do?

Making it easy to allow peeping into your public past02.26.07

When you meet someone new, the most important things you usually want to know about them is not about their present but their past. You want to know their name, realize their gender, find out their habits and even know their current occupation or education; all these things were decided long time ago. People will usually tend to inquire about your past, your previous actions and your background. You can make it easy if you want for others to look into your public past.

Why you should start things early02.22.07

I recently read a post by Daniel in which he talked about having emergency posts. This prompted me to comment and realize that scheduling posts in advance can be go along with having emergency posts. This concept can be applied to the offline world too. Planning and starting your tasks early can help reduce stress and avoid problems you may face later on.

Female stereotyping02.04.07

I was talking with a female Comcast staff today to try to get cable internet at my new temporary apartment. She kept referring to the technician who would come for the setup as the “cable guy“, and so did I. After the phone call ended, I realized how both of us had stereotyped the cable installation profession as being something that involved only men. While many people have started saying things like “postal worker” due to the increasing awareness in different fields, I wonder why so many professions and ideas are still only associated with guys. May be it is because this world still favors men on many levels.

Preferring the smell of gasoline at certain gas stations03.23.06

Do you like smelling the gas when you’re filling up your car? A friend of mine told me today that he likes smelling it too. However, he likes smelling gas from certain brand names, like Chevron and 76. Other brand names, he didn’t like them that much.

I never knew smelling gas would be the same as smelling food or drugs and preferring one brand over the other. I guess gas usually smells good since it also costs so much, whether it’s from a big company or from a tar pit located in my backyard. I now have to see if my sense of smelling is strong enough to see if all gas smells the same, or if the big oil names smell better than the smaller gas stations.

How about you? Do you like smelling gas at the gas pump? Do you prefer any brand?
