If I could, I would spend all nights in the fog. Until, of course, I see someone with a hook.

Thought: Trends of mass opening of accounts for 5 types of online services09.11.07

With more and more new online services popping up, I am getting at least 10-12 new site sign-up requests every week. I regularly wonder if many people simply open such online accounts and visit them regularly, or if they keep on opening new accounts and never visit them on a regular basis after that. Such a trend has me thinking: the online world has seen such mass hysteria of opening new accounts for different services before.

Listed below are trends of 5 different types of online services that have drawn a huge crowd after them. I have listed each trend in the order it became popular, going from the oldest and longest running trend, opening e-mail accounts, to the youngest and most famous trend today, opening social networking accounts.

How Cell Phone Helps You In 5 Ways During Busy Times08.04.07

This article has been updated with more useful content. The original, unedited content of this post is included at the end of this article. Thank you for your patience while I was moving.

I just got done changing houses. I moved from the cool Bay Area to the warm boundaries of the Bay Area. I prefer the cool Bay Area, though my move was more necessary than being voluntary. My new place is a bit better in many aspects, though I still prefer the atmosphere and the weather that Berkeley has to offer.

One of the things I noticed during this move was the amount of time I saved and the stress I was able to avoid because of having a cell phone. Here I would like to talk to you about the 5 ways a cell phone helped me tremendously while I was moving from one city to another, in order to give you an idea of how a cell phone can help you a lot during busy times.

Thought: On John Chow ranking higher on Google than ProBlogger03.21.07

John Chow recently announced that his site JohnChow.com site ranked higher on Google than ProBlogger when searching for the words “Make Money Online.” Most people on John’s site are excited over the results, since it means that using anchor text efficiently helps in search engine ranking. For me, here is the most important point that is missing from the post and the comments: would visiting John’s site actually give me more useful information than ProBlogger when it comes to making money online?

Working hard to appear before another site on search engines can be good, though that also means that you are promising a reader that your site also delivers more value than the other site.

Gmail and Orkut now open for many people, not everyone02.09.07

For some years now, Google made big buzz by making people get an invitation from others before being able to sign up for Gmail and Orkut accounts. I have been giving out free Gmail invites since 2004, and free Orkut invites since 2005. Since last Wednesday, February 7th, 2007, there have been reports circling the web that Google has opened Gmail signups for everyone. In reality, however, Gmail is now open for people in some countries including North America, many countries in Europe and Middle East, Brazil, Africa, Australia, Russia and Japan.

Fellow blogger review - John Chow’s JohnChow.com01.17.07

In order to utilize the time spent online, I think it is very important to helps others on the internet and also learn something from others. Knowledge must always be sought out, since there is never a stage where we will know everything about anything in life. We have so many opportunities to learn about things on the internet, it is sometimes crazy going through different sites and coming across something valuable. I recently came across the site of John Chow while visiting “Daily Blog Tips.” If you are a blogger and want to learn something about how different techniques affect a blog in terms of popularity and income, I think you should visit JohnChow.com and read through some of the tips and personal case studies he has to share with his readers.

50 Gmail invites available12.20.04

I have 50 Gmail invites available to those who need it. Please contact me, or leave a comment with your name and a valid email address to send the invite to.

[Update] June 21st, 2005 - 3:06 pm

Please note that I need your email address to send the invitations. I get several emails sent through the website almost every day requesting a gmail invitation, and most of them have invalid or no email addresses in them. Without an email address, I am unable to send a gmail invitation. Thank you.

[/Update]

[Update] August 20th, 2005 - 9:23 am

I have given about 73 Gmail invites so far. The last one I gave was yesterday, and now my Gmail counter is showing the number of Gmail invited to be 49. Usually, the counter went back to 50 repeatedly, and I could send more invites, and then after a few hours, the counter always showed 50 remaining invites. Now, it’s not changing. So here’s your chance to get a Gmail invite while it’s still available, or until Gmail opens to everyone.

Post a comment below with a working email address to get your free invite.

[Update] August 24th, 2005 - 12:01 pm

Google is offering free invitation codes itself if you have a cell phone. Get a text message with your free code over at Gmail.

[Update] February 9th, 2007 - 10: am

Google has opened up Gmail for people in many countries. You can probably sign up directly without the need of an invite, and you can still request an invitation below if you wish.
