1. You doubt a complete group of people immediately while trusting the other one completely

   Imagine me telling you that a certain group of people did something bad, and that you immediately come to the conclusion that those people are bad and that you should not expect anything better from them. Now imagine me telling you that some people from the groups that you associate with did something bad, and that you immediately say things along the lines of “Well, they must have had a reason” or “It was only them who did it” or “I am not sure, I need to know the whole story before I judge.” Chances are you discriminate against a certain group immediately, while thinking critically when it comes to judging your own group of people.

   When you hear about some Jews acting bad, you immediately agree that they are bad. When you hear about some Muslims acting bad, you immediately make sure that you try to ask for more proof or verification of the story, or you try not to judgment, opposite to what you did in the case of the Jews. The exact opposite story, interchanging the Muslims with the Jews and vice versa is a similar example. No matter what side you may be supporting, you discriminate against the other instantly and start passing judgments as if your opinions are thought our critically.

   When you hear about some militant groups in Africa molesting and raping young children in certain areas in order to spread more fear, you start concluding that they are less civilized. When you hear about some American soldiers molesting or raping girls in Japan and some other bases, you immediately start doubting the story, asking for more verification, and maybe even starting to pinpoint the bad things about the foreign country in which such reported incidents take place. You may call such a trait patriotism; in reality, it is racism and a form of stupidity thriving together.

2. Your pro-country mentality result in you hating a certain country or group of people

   This is a huge headache in many cases. Europeans hating the Americans, Americans hating the Europeans, Palestinians hating the Israelis, Israelis hating the Palestinians, Canadians hating Americans, Americans hating Canadians, Pakistanis hating Indians, Indians hating Pakistanis, Mexicans hating Americans, Americans hating Mexicans, North Koreans hating the Americans, Americans hating the North Koreans, Chinese hating Japanese, Japanese hating Chinese, Iranians hating the Americans, Americans hating the Iranians, etc etc etc. It is as if countries were built to hate each other. I realize they were.

   A small group of people from some hurt your country, and you are going to start hating the entire group of people or the majority of some country that those people are from because of that? Take your racist, narrow-minded mentalities somewhere else. I do not care. Anytime you automatically stereotype a majority or all people associated with a group of people because of your love for your own country, stay away from me, and instead impose your racist views on your family or your poor do-not-have-a-future-because-of-racist-parents children. Every country in this world is suffering, and every country in this world is inflicting harm on some other weaker country. Having a full circle of hating one another because of that only spreads racism.

3. Your pro-religion mentality results in you hating a certain country or group of people

   Christians against the Muslims, Muslims against the Christians, Buddhists against other religions, other religions against atheism and Buddhism, etc. How many times, every week or every minute of the day, do we see ourselves or someone else, either in real life or on TV, stereotype against a certain religion or someone or a group of people who try to follow a certain religion, or who may be directly or indirectly associated with a certain religion.

   If someone brings up something bad about a religion you do not know about, you agree that it is bad. If someone brings up something bad about your religion, you want to inquire more, you try to defend your religion, you try to criticize every critic of your religion. For you, reality does not revolve around what is happening. For you, reality revolves around your religion being right and you defending it. That mentality is the exact same as those people who go around the entire planet torturing innocent people because of religion: killing people in Middle East because of religion, burning mosques and churches in America, prosecuting all religious people in many countries, torturing non-religious people in several religious countries, etc. It is as if your religion exists in order to spread torture, and you exist in order to spread racism.

4. Your pro-ethnic mentality results in you hating certain ethnicities while completely favoring some over the other

   Try remembering the last time someone brought up some major ethnic discrimination event from years ago, in order to justify your own hatred or discrimination for others. Maybe try remembering the last time you yourself cited some major event of racism or hatred in order to justify your hatred against some group of people. Did you yourself suffer anything, literally, in person? How many Vietnamese people who complain about the Vietnam war were actually in the Vietnam and suffered in person, and are thus not enjoying life at all today? How many of the African American youth today which complains about being stereotyped were actually stereotyped and hurt in person in the 60’s and 70’s, since that is the era I keep hearing everyday from the mouth of many?

   How many people have actually seen a Jewish person steal money, a French act stupid and drunk, an Arab blow up something, a Canadian act illiterate of the world events, an American molest females in army bases in other countries, a Mexican steal your job literally, a Cuban bring drugs in his shoes, a black man listen to rap music while robbing your neighbor, and a white person running around screaming out “KKK FOR ALL” at the top of his or her lungs? There can be hundreds of more examples along the lines of what I just said. A lot of these things have happened, and a lot of these things are not happening. How can we look at the example of a few and stereotype everyone? You are going to stereotype everyone or even a large group of people, people you know nothing about, simply based on what some specific people have done?

   Your excuse of “I know not everyone is like that” is stupid, pathetic and immature, considering the fact that you are always stereotyping that certain ethnic group and that when you are cornered you resort to that defense. Most people who complain about discrimination against them, in order to justify their own discriminatory views, have not experienced any of the above, yet they will say “I know it has happened to others, so I know what is going on.” Really? If we used such mentality, then all the Chinese, Japanese, Christians, Muslims, Jews, Americans, Mexicans, Canadians, French, Europeans, Russians, Buddhists, and more would be hating everyone on this planet, because I know a lot of Japanese, Koreans, Muslims, Christians, Anti-semitic-yet-do-not-realize-it, Europeans, Americans, Russians, and other people who have suffered physically in reality and people who simply cry on the bandwagon because someone else in the distant suffered or their great great grandfathers suffered.

   “Avoid saying such things which stereotype and hurt other people and their image“, I say. “Why don’t you mind your own god damn business or get lost.” Awesome mentality you have. Keep saying things that mingle with other people’s lives and business, but when others tell you to not say such things, you tell others to mind their own business. That is some amazing mature mentality you have.

   Similarly, hating some ethnicity or feeling discriminated simply because your ancestors suffered does not mean you suffered. Suffering the after effects is one thing, and not suffering anything and being genetically linked to people who suffered, while enjoying life, is not equivalent to suffering yourself. There are many of us who have actually suffered in our lifetime more than you and your ancestors combined. Trying to attract the sympathy of others, by playing the victims game, in order to justify your own hatred when in reality you have suffered nothing is stupid. Such a logic does not equivilate to you being justified in hating others.

5. You cannot help yourself from making certain ethnic or religious jokes which completely stereotype and hurt others, while you cannot make certain jokes about some ethnicities or religion

   Ever hear the joke about the sex-addict and stupid French woman? Ever hear the joke about the terrorist Arab? Ever hear the joke about the miser Jew? Ever hear the joke about the stupid Japanese? Ever hear the joke about the illiterate American redneck? Chances are, you may have heard all of these jokes, but you may not be comfortable with all of them. If you do joke about some ethnicities but cannot joke about some other specific ethnicities, you may be racist. Simply joking about every ethnicity does not make you an anti-Racist; it just shows that you hate many more ethnicities than a typical racist person.

   There is a difference between joking and not meaning things and realizing when it may hurt people and when it may only be a joke, and joking and hurting people and claiming that you did not intend to hurt anyone. If you are not good at realizing when it will hurt someone, stop joking.

   You are comfortable at making fun of French or the Germans people but not the British? You are comfortable making fun of Buddhists or atheists but not the Christians? You are comfortable making fun of the Chinese or Koreans but not the Japanese? You are comfortable making fun of Muslims or the Arabs but not the Jews? You are comfortable making fun of Colombians or Cubans but not the Mexicans? You are comfortable making fun of people with light colored skins but not dark skin? You are comfortable making fun of anyone else except anything you try to associate with yourself or a group that the society around you tries to associate with? Poor you, you stereotypical racist moron. Your jokes are ways for you to be scared of being racist and be a racist at the same time, since your supposed-”it’s a joke“-disclaimer can probably make someone not beat you up for being stupid.

6. You stereotype all the time, and you try to hide behind jokes or certain disclosures.

   This is a trend that is slowly gaining more acceptance and ridicule at the same depending, depending on different people. Repeatedly making jokes about someone’s ethnicity, religion, lack of religion, lack of ethnicity, their background or anything else, which hurts someone, means you do not care about that person. That also means your jokes exist solely to make racist and discriminatory remarks, and that you are hiding behind your jokes to get away with your inability to not hate someone directly or indirectly because of things outside their control, like their background, as if someone was completely wrong with it in all situations.

   When you know a joke can hurt or simply offend someone, as to why you are making that joke in context to someone who is involved in the conversation or joke with you, there is no point in saying “I’m sorry” afterwards. Why be sorry when you are continuously doing whatever you are doing anyhow?

Racism Rules! Literally.

These are the 6 signs that show the racism in you, me and others. These are also the 6 signs you can use to observe others around you and see whether or not someone exhibits some forms of hate or discrimination against some person or a group of people. Ideas and feelings of racism, without actually experiencing anything bad ourselves, are all around us. Even when we experience something ourselves directly, the idea of racism or hating a group of people only increases or takes turns. It can be very hard to simply keep such feelings inside of us.

I do not care what religion you have, what country you are from, what ethnicity you fantasize about, and what color you love blending in with. Treat me the way I act and am, and I will treat you in the same manner. Act racist around me, and I will simply realize that I wasted time around a loser like you. It’s your life; you can live in your small little racist bubble and feel all powerful and righteous. We both know what you really are. All I care about are actual actions, feelings and experiences in life.

Every point mentioned above can be observed as having different levels of dedication. Some people commit to some or all of the above points all the time, while others resort to it from time to time. Still, some people simply say some extreme things without actually being racist in order to make a point. However, if the listener or other people do not realize that you made a point, you have actually hurt the other person. What is the point of not being racist when your actions are hurting others as if you were racist? How about not being a racist and making sure whatever you do does not hurt others either?

Now if you will excuse me, I have to go to near an Indian owned 7-eleven to a Boba place owned by Koreans where only Asian workers are cashiers and only Mexicans make Boba in the back room, with the only non-Asian customers at night being white kids who read comics and where a black person will almost never be a customer. Or maybe I’ll go eat at Jack-in-the-Box next to it where I can focus more on getting curly fries than on the ethnic or background segregation of the drive-thru people or the people making the food. Who said fast food places were good for nothing?

Some anti-gay people I know are so nice and respectful that I feel lucky to know them. Others are simply so obsessed that I am surprised.

I know many people online who are gay, many people online who are not gay, and I know many online people who do not like gay people. Some of my very close offline and online friends do not like gay people, but they also make sure they have logic in their arguments, and that they do not go around hating a whole group of people simply because of their own sexual preference. My close friends, both online and offline, can say anything logical and warranted because they are my close friends. However, if you know me only through a single post and start telling me online that you know me for only a day, and that you will not come back to my blog because you think I am gay, I am not going to persuade you to stay. Convincing people that gay people are good or they are bad can be a quest I am willing to go after; convincing you to stay, because of your assumptions while reading a single post and knowing me for less than 24 hours, is something I could have done last year when I was counseling people a lot.

However, many of these people do not care about such things as long as they are not directly affected by something related to the concept of being gay. I notice some people act weird every single day, because of their fear that gay or bisexual people are alive in this world. They do not care if a gay or bisexual blogger posts something useful in a blog post or a blog comment; they only care about the sexual preference of that blogger or commentor, and they judge the blogger or commentor accordingly.

The most common reason for people hating gay people

Even though so many people tell me that they would not like to be touched sexually by a person of the same sex, I often wonder how many of such people are attractive enough to attract anyone. If you ask people, the people who say “I do not like being touched or asked out by another guy/girl“, you may be surprised to hear the answer if you ask them “How many people of the same sex as you have ever actually hit on you.” Even if someone hits on you, does that mean you have to start hating that person, or everyone who has the same sexual preference as that person?

Unless a gay or bisexual blogger talks about topics revolving gay and bisexual nature of people that affects your views or yourself directly, it can be extreme to argue against or even hate someone or treat them differently, simply because of their sexual preference, when they are simply trying to focus on a non-gay topics and offer you their opinion. Why not just focus on the topic at hand if that topic does not revolve, even remotely, around topics like same sex marriage?

How about gay people hating straight people?

Now an even more interesting thing to think about is how many gay people have phobia against non-gay people. I was making a list, and I know at least 14 people off the top of my head who are strictly anti-straight; these people are obsessed with hating straight people, which is again weird in my opinion. I think I am going to start a series on both topics soon.

What do you think? If you are a close friend, you already know if I am gay or not. Otherwise, you can probably figure out on your own if I am gay or not, though I love being whatever nightmare or phobia you may have. Why? Because I can. Your ability to start acting weird around me simply because of your own fear, which has nothing to do with me and which exists because of you passing judgments about me without thinking, gives me the right to.

Racial discrimination

Theoretically on the web, there should not be any form of discrimination. In reality however, there is. We use the same racial terminology to describe people on the web that we do in person. On sites like MySpace and Facebook, I see many people sticking around and joining groups that promote their culture only by degrading other cultures. The potential of the web is being wasted in creating more separation than what the web is actually capable of: bringing everyone closer than never before. Similarly, we ask people about their ethnic race and background culture even when it comes to things like creating some e-mail account or joining certain blogging networks. We need to realize the situations where such information is beneficial to everyone, and we also need to realize the situations where such information is not relevant.

It is easy to get a chance to appreciate others online for what they do for themselves and for what they do for others. Even when we see pictures of millions of people on their own sites, we do not rush to conclusions based on their biological appearance. Instead, we associate the writing with the picture and that association creates a completely new perspective in our minds. Such interaction with others on the web will help us phase out any stereotypes we have related to different people online.

Gender discrimination

One of the other obvious forms of discrimination today is against females. In real life, many people get surprised when a female accomplishes great things in a male dominated world. We still get surprised and show anger at the very thought of a woman running a country, regardless of her political affiliation. Similary, in the corporate world we still throw tantrums in real life and online when a female runs a big corporation, creating extra fuss simply because of her gender. We have a way to get over this on the web but many choose not to.

The same way there are stereotypes against people of a specific gender in the world of shopping, stereotypical discrimination exists on the web also. Many people will still only link to sites of the same gender, because they “don’t trust” the opposite gender. I wonder if they follow this same rule when it comes to their parents, siblings and children? While everyone is entitled to their opinion, we have more chances to look at sites without wondering about the identification differences that the societies in the world have created. The online world allows everyone to have equal opportunities, regardless of their gender. Let us make use of these opportunities to at least remove discrimination from our own mentality.

Conclusion: The web allows us to progress against discrimination

While discrimination usually amounts to promoting a certain biological trait over another, sometimes promoting such traits effectively as a reactionary countermeasure helps people be aware of discrimination. Blogging sites focusing solely on a certain gender can be an example of this. While they all may be considered promoting a certain gender over the other, some of them actually take the right step when it comes to raising more awareness about something that has been suppressed for centuries: realization that everyone is equal regardless of their gender. Similarly, there are many sites which promote blogs by a certain country or a certain ethnic group. Joining these groups is fine as long as you do not put any other country or ethnic group below your own. You do not own rights to a certain group of people, and therefore you certainly not own rights to degrade any group of people.

I look forward to the day when people would feel comfortable doing things both in real life and on the web regardless of their gender or race. I also look forward to the day when different people will do different things together while still getting together with people of similar traits if they wish. I hope this is done in an effective manner so that everyone is treated equally, and that sticking close to people of different races and both genders makes us realize that we are all equal. One day people will hopefully tell each other “Back then they used to treat people of different races and gender differently.” I hope I see that day in my lifetime.

Usually, salespeople focus on selling something to a guy rather than a girl at many stores. I see this happening a lot at car dealerships. The salespeople will walk up to a family or a couple, and talk about the details of the deals with the man, even if the car is being bought for the woman. I see this happening at electronic stores also, where the salesperson comes and greets everyone in the buying party, and then starts focusing on the husband or the guys. Even if a guy is holding a baby in an electronic store and his wife or girlfriend is looking at stuff, the salespeople usually tend to hover around the guy. It’s also interesting to see that sometimes you see salespeople of either sex acting the same way when it comes to zoning in on a single member of a buying party in order to make a sale, or to influence their buying decision.

While it would be interesting for me to say that females are the only ones that are the target of gender bias or prejudice on such levels and in such cases, I cannot do that since that would be an inaccurate statement to state. Men are also victims of gender bias; Why is it “nice” for a guy to pay the bill all the time? Being “nice” for what? Why not be nice to another guy all the time also, then? Are girls weaker that we have to be nicer to them more than necessary? No. Then, are guys expecting something back from the girl? Who knows; I’ll delve deeper into that interesting, yet sensitive topic of thinking one is forever “biologically handicapped when it comes to attraction”, some other day. Why are guys ignored in most of the toy stores? Why do many jewelry shops focus on guys only when it’s time to make the payment?

It’s good to get rid of the archaic theory that women do not affect the decision of men when it comes to buying something. Both men and women affect each others’ decisions when they are living together, and the more we move towards a society where gender differences are not glorified or sympathized by either sex, the less differences we will see between the buying habits of both men and women, and the effect of such habits on the opposite sex and their lives.

The mentality that a certain gender is good for something, and that some things should be done so as to trigger a response in a specific gender, is a stereotypical social trend that definitely needs to be changed. This change should come because of realizing that such a mentality is not a justifiable one. This change, however, should not come because of realizing that respecting a specific gender on purpose will yield some benefits, such as more sales. Only when we can’t change that mentality based on the concept of equality can we turn to focusing on the buying power of the females. Better to do at least something that can get us a bit closer in the direction we want to go.

When you go with someone of the opposite sex to buy something, whether it’s expensive or not, who do the sales people usually talk to more: the female or the male? What is the gender of such salespeople? When you go to an electronics store like Best Buy, which of the two gets more attention: father or mother? How about a toy store like Toys R Us? What do you think about this?

We talk about equal opportunities in the world, and aim to bring more education to women in other countries, while women in our societies right here get criticized whenever they assume a “leadership” and lead something. We are now getting ready to either pound on the first “female” presidential candidate, or defend her in every possible and impossible way. Not only are many people urging people not to vote for her, they’re urging more than ever before to vote for some other democratic candidate, which is a pathetic idea to even consider. Not only does the idea of a woman president confuse the most of us, seeing successful women in the workplace makes us lose our sleep too.

I will use one example here from the workplace to show my point. Carleton S. Fiorina, also known as “Carly” Fiorina, created a big “splash” in the tech. business sector around the country when she was given the role of being the HP CEO. When she was “ousted” last May, because of not being able to fulfil the promised profits. Two of the main reasons cited for this decision were the invisible profits and the mass layoffs under her “rule.” She did indeed support the movement of jobs to other countries with low pay. While I don’t completely agree with her on that point, I have never heard any other CEO taking the same heat as her, and almost every other CEO, including those at other big competitors [of HP], have taken the same stand. What is interesting here is that the new CEO of HP, Mark Hurd, has announced massive layoffs, even more than Carly, in order to turn in profit. Where are these jobs going? You guessed it; overseas, which is one of the main issues Carly was considered controversial. Is anyone pointing the finger at Mark now? Nope, no one.

Moving back from the technical world to our own small world inside our houses, we still have the “female” manage everything in the house most of the time. Many men have taken the responsibility of taking over many tasks that were only assigned to females before, and that’s considered a good thing by many of us. Taking the same concept and applying it to everything else, we should also think the same way when females take over many positions that have solely been dominated by men throughout history. While HP wasn’t around 500 years ago, the concept of leadership and running anything has always been associated with a “he”; this “he” is included in sentences everywhere that describe any story, any poem, or any thought about any imaginative successful person. Why is there so much opposition to having females do everything, or anything, that males are “destined” to do? Why can’t people come out and say that they oppose a certain female “prospect” leader because she is a female, and not because she is of a certain party. At least that way these “opponents” will have the guts to show why they are discriminating and not use the red or blue flag as an excuse. Also, why can’t the area of “work” be comprised of both men and women in such a way that no one cares what the gender is when it comes to the actual job performance. While many people will argue that jobs such as prison guards are better suited for men, we can also say that communication jobs in the world are better suited for women, as majority of the women can communicate far better than majority of the men. Either way, it’s a stretch of a general assumption that can always have exceptions, and thus cannot be a universal fact applicable to everyone and in every situation. Let’s also step forward and have these laws be enforced on males as well as females. I will save that discussion for another day.

Imagine the next president being a female; I’m not referring to Hilary Clinton only. Let’s have a republican “female” candidate run for president also. And while we are at it, let’s start calling every male candidate as “male” candidate also, instead of just “candidates.” It’s just like the Oscars; Denzel Washington is labeled as the “First African American Male to win an Oscar”, while Russell Crowe gets “His first Oscar.” Let’s just cut through the unwanted dirt and start looking at things regardless of the “biological” nature of human beings. As long as someone is capable, they deserve to be given a chance if they earn it. Let’s stop criticizing females in different fields in every way we can, while criticizing males in only the things we don’t agree on. We are in the modern era, and the “female” species have started to show their frustration with the male dominated society. It’s time we had a society that’s dominated by leaders, not by a specific gender.

It reminded me of all the times I applied for work at different restaurants when I was young [about a 100 years ago], and how many times I got the job, and many times I didn’t. Somehow I remembered the Abercrombie & Fitch lawsuit, in which the giant clothing retailer was found to have business practices that were deemed “unethical” and supporting discrimination against different minorities in the country, and also against women applicants. Discrimination against the minority does keep happening throughout the country, there is no doubt about that. However, there is one thing that many people don’t notice; discrimination originating not only from the majority, but also from the minority.

There are many restaurants, regardless of their background or ethnicity of the owners, or even the restaurant type, that offer jobs to and employ everyone who is qualified because of their skills. In this short article, I am going to talk about those restaurants in the minority areas that do not wish to employ those people who are from different ethnicity, or are of a different gender than the dominant gender in the society [you can imagine which gender is which]. I remembered how people were really hyped up last year when the issue about Abercrombie & Fitch was in the mainstream news. Similarly, Walmart has been targeted for years for discriminating against women job applicants and workers. However, I don’t remember seeing anywhere in the news about what happens to applicants who, being either from the minority or the majority communities, apply at a place that is owned by a minority community member. For example, have you ever seen an American guy working at a Japanese restaurant? Or have you ever seen any African American working at a Chinese restaurant? In the example above, I have never seen any other ethnicity, other than Vietnamese people, working at Lee’s Sandwiches.

While these cases may not be obvious at first, I’m surprised that people haven’t sued these small chains for discriminating others also. You can try this yourself; go to a restaurant or a food chain, or even a grocery store, that is accepting applications in a minority area which you don’t belong to [technically], and try applying. When your face looks different from everyone else around you, including the workers, you can see the small surprise in the face of the employer to whom you hand over your job application to. I once applied at a Japanese restaurant in Tustin, as a waiter, when I was still young. The closest I got to the job at that place was when I had the job application in my hand, and when I handed it over to one of the amazed employees. I never got any call, and the position was filled up after a month of being open by a native Japanese citizen. How many of you have been to a boba place in America and seen someone who doesn’t fit the typical stereotype working there? Have you ever succeeded in getting a job there if you don’t fall into that stereotype? How about a Del Taco; how would you react if the place was filled, in Southern California, with all Caucasian Americans and not Hispanic-origin people?

The only non-stereotypical person I see at most of the boba places are Mexicans, who work in the back making and cleaning the boba. They never come to the front; the front is reserved for different kind of people. Similarly, have you ever counted the number of female waitresses working at a Japanese restaurant, and the number of male waiters at the same restaurant? Figure out the ratio, and find out the same ratio at different Japanese restaurants, specially those that are open till night and have bars that attract males. You will be surprised at the closeness of those ratios. Same is the case with many different ethnic restaurants in different situations and scenarios. Not all places are like this; I worked, while I was in school and during the early years of college, at a few Chinese restaurants, and while I didn’t stay there for long, the owners of those places at that time simply didn’t care if I was from Mars or from hell, as long as I gave the customers what they wanted. They treated me normally, and I treated them normally.

However, it is getting harder and harder to see diversity among the minority establishments. While such a theme may be called valid and as “offsetting” the entire balance as there are less minority workers than majority and thus they should be preferred, this whole system of “preference” is discrimination to me in many cases, as not preferring someone for a job or any other benefit, while that person has done no wrong but is being categorized into the “stereotypical” practices of the few of the majority, is discrimination against that individual. Language is sometimes used as a scapegoat to eliminate someone from a job opportunity. Language should not be a barrier. In North America, for example, English should be only required in jobs at public places that don’t depend on language. Restaurants shouldn’t depend on languages, but places like translation services should. So, a restaurant that has customers that speak different languages, should hire both types of people; those who speak only English, and those who speak another language in addition to English, so that when someone is needed to speak a foreign language to a customer who doesn’t speak English, the one who speaks that other language can be assigned to that customer.

These small situations of discrimination, which lead to filtering out anyone who doesn’t look a certain way, should be kept in mind when dealing with discrimination on any level by the majority, in any country. We have to be an example of what we want others to be; a society is a machine, aiming to be an ideal society where everyone is equal regardless of where they are from. All the parts of the machine have to work together. This requires a friction-less mechanism; discrimination is the friction here, which keeps slowing down this machine. We are not an ideal society today; we are far from such a thing. Focusing on the fast food and restaurant industry alone, we have many restaurants with two kinds of menus; one for a certain language, and another for the mainstream majority language speakers. This is discrimination, as both menus have the exact same pricing but many different items that are not available to both of the language speakers.

While we may point out the invisibility of diversity at places like Ruby’s, we often don’t look for such trends at places that are not so glamorous. We have many bakeries throughout the country, located in minority areas, which only offer signs in a specific language other than what the majority speaks, so that anyone who speaks the main majority language has a hard time adjusting and finding out the prices, let alone order anything. How can we call a huge corporation a “racist” organization and label it as being “white”, when we ourselves don’t let any other ethnicity join our local banks [like banks aimed at Vietnamese population only in major cities in California], restaurants, small coffee and boba shops, and other places? We should allow everyone to come in and participate. Whether one is black, brown, yellow, pink, purple, orange, or blue, it doesn’t matter; we’re all red inside, and that is what makes us all the same. Once we ourselves, no matter which country or galaxy we’re from, treat others equally, we can expect to have the right to be treated equally also. Only then can we actually look at everyone else as a human being, and not as someone from a different community.
