The Guardin’ Gnome achievement in Left 4 Dead 2 is given to players who carry Gnome Chompsky from chapter 2 all the way to the helicopter finale of Dark Carnival. This is Chapter 2, “The Coaster”, of Dark Carnival. You can start your game directly from Chapter 2 and get the achievement after you finish the finale.

Tips for Guardin’ Gnome Achievement – from Suicide Noobs

  1. You need 750 points on 1st game in Dark Carnival Ch 2 to get the gnome.
  2. You can use the gnome as a weapon or to push off zombies.
  3. Gnome will take up a lot of your viewing space. Get used to it.
  4. The gnome does not need to be held at all times. Drop him to fight too!
  5. You can drop gnome in end safe rooms. He’ll re-appear in new chapters.
  6. Gnome must make it onto the helicopter with any survivor in the finale.
  7. Anyone can carry the gnome. You can switch turns too.
  • Did you know that CHOMPSKY is the name of the Gnome?

Here is the Confederacy of Crunches achievement, one of the harder achievements for people who are not used to melee weapons. The Confederacy of Crunches achievement is given to players who finish an entire campaign, from the starting credit to the ending credit, using only a melee weapon.

You cannot shoot a single bullet, even into the sky. You cannot throw molotovs, pipe bombs or bile jars. You cannot light or blow anything up. You have to use a melee weapon to kill. If you have guns, you have to make sure you don’t shoot even a single bullet in the entire campaign, whether or not you use a melee weapon to kill.

Here is the Tank Burger achievement, one of the easier achievements for anyone who can move fast and can attack a tank without any delay. The Tank Burger achievement is given to players who kill a tank using only melee weapons. Anyone else involved in actually causing damage to the tank has to use a melee weapon also.

Why is such an achievement important? Imagine being in a zombie apocalypse and running out of all burgers. Want to eat the tank since you are starving? Too bad: you killed him with bullets and his body is now poisoned because of the bullets. You molotoved him? You basically burnt him beyond any nutritional value. Better melee him to save his yummy tender white meat for later, or else you will have to start looking at one of your teammates for fresh food after weeks of starvation!

Or at least that’s what Bes thinks.
