If I could, I would spend all nights in the fog. Until, of course, I see someone with a hook.

3 technological advancements that are somewhat still useless01.17.07

I have decided to participate in the January 15th Peeve Week project . This is my second post for that project.

Human beings have for a long time depended on tools to achieve goals faster. From cars to computers to watches and cell phones, we all use some tool that helps us do things more efficiently. With advancements in technology, however, more focus has been put in the last decade on adding glamor to things instead of improving those things. Here is my list of 3 small technological advancements that were intended to help people but at this time are simply not doing as much good as originally hyped by their respective industries.

My car battery, odometer & inside lights04.08.06

My car sounded different today when I turned it on. The ignition itself seemed to resist the temptation to turn on for about half a second. After that, the car was shaking a bit throughout my whole drive. What could be the culprit? Oh what could it be?

The conflicting tips from Honda, Walmart & Jiffy Lube08.30.05

I took my car to one the official Honda dealerships, which also offers the Honda service center, earlier this year. Honda service centerI wanted to have my car checked to see if I needed any changes and have the oil changed also. I waited for about 2 hours in the waiting lounge, where I watched most of “Hotel Rwanda”, a movie that many people should see. After about 2 hours, the guy who was handling my car “case” came into the lounge and told me that my car needed several emergency repairs: a new fan belt, a new timing belt, replace the current air filter, new brake shoe pads, and new line cylinder. The total for these “critical” fixes was going to be around $749, plus tax, and would take less than 2 hours.

Ever Wonder Why - Car Sales people 107.18.05

Ever wonder why the sales people at a car dealership invite you to take a ride in one of the cars, and after you are done, they always say “Let’s go back to the office to see if the car is available.” Ever wonder why the car you just test drove is always available, no matter what?

Here’s why: This is a tactic to get you into the office. Getting you to the office is one of the 3 hardest parts they have to go through [one is to get you interested in a car, second is to get you to start the application process to see if your credit qualifies, and third is to have the deal loom around the price they wish]. The sales people already know which cars are available and which aren’t. They wouldn’t waste their time “helping” you choose and test drive a car that is already reserved for someone else.

Since they already know that you want the car and that it is available, they talk to you while you test drive, trying to find out your background and information about your current situation [why are you interested in the car?] to know how to act and what to say [to close the deal] once they get you to the office after the test drive phase is over.

Next time you are at a dealership, keep this in mind.
