Question: Do you prefer Facebook or MySpace?
12 Sep
Today’s question is pretty simple. I have both a Facebook & a MySpace account at the moment. Based on this post and what you may already know about these two services, do you prefer using Facebook or MySpace? For this question, please assume that you are simply offering an opinion on one of these networks being better in your opinion, regardless of your liking for online social networks in general.
Facebook & MySpace target the same people using different requirements
Facebook is considered by many people to be a more mature online social networking service1 compared to MySpace2 . Facebook focuses more on the concept of networks: you belong to an area, a school, a company or some other group on Facebook which becomes your primary network. As of this writing, Facebook does not allow you to directly edit the entire layout of your profile, which is considered a blessing and a downside, depending on which group of people you talk to. You can, however, customize where different parts and snippets of information get placed on your layout.
MySpace is considered by many to be the most widely known online social networking service in the world. MySpace focuses more on the concept of adding friends and other people to your profile so that you can get to know them more. MySpace allows you to edit almost the entire layout of your MySpace profile. Again, just like Facebook, this is considered both a good and a bad thing, based on the preferences of different people. Maybe having different preferences is what life is all about, right?
A Facebook account, at the moment, focuses heavily on comments and other ways of interaction to help people communicate. A MySpace account, at the moment, focuses heavily on comments, direct messages, and the actual profile customization to help people communicate. MySpace also has its own instant messaging service, called the MySpace IM that you download onto your computer to chat with all of your MySpace buddies or strangers. Facebook, in contrast, has developed its own in-browser chat service, enabling you to chat with any of your online contacts within your browser, while you are actively browsing or doing anything on your Facebook account.
Do you prefer Facebook or MySpace?
So, back to our original question: based on the above brief information, would you prefer using Facebook or MySpace? Are there some other points or reasons for your answer?
I will stop here so that I can do a few things, including checking a message I got on MySpace and sending a message to someone on Facebook. Thank you for reading. :)

- Many people consider Facebook to have more working students and professionals. It is also widely assumed, as far as I can notice, that Facebook has more people interacting with others they already know or may want to know in a non-intimate manner. Also, due to the lack of profile background editing on Facebook, people view Facebook as being more professional looking due to the consistent look of the entire site. Facebook is at the moment considered to be growing at a very accelerated rate. [↩]
- MySpace, which came before Facebook, has gathered the focus and attention of millions of teenagers and even younger kids around the world. Mostly due to this fact, probably, it is widely assumed, as far as I can observe, that MySpace has a more younger and a bit-less-mature-than-facebook audience. Also, due to MySpace allowing any profile page to be customized, the old days of the internet where many web pages had black backgrounds and blue texts to give many a headache are back. Also, there is a huge popular trend on MySpace, that I have observed, of strangers adding others simply to view their pictures, find out more personal details about them, or try to be physically intimate somehow, creating one of the big reasons why many Facebook people avoid MySpace. Even then, more people stick to MySpace than Facebook at the moment and continue using MySpace at a very hyper and active rate. The growth rate of MySpace is currently estimated to be going at a constant rate. [↩]

I love to use face book. It’s really helpful for making a good & big circle. It’s really tied the bond of the known & unknown person. Thanks for sharing the post.
Facebook does a much better job at connecting people. It makes much more sense to find someone with some sort of relation to you through a network then by performing a search for an email address or name – which most people dont know anyway.
I’d prefer facebook. But I read somewhere that more educated people tend to use facebook. That would make sense since they only allowed people in colleges to sign up before they allowed everyone access.
Honestly, I didn’t really like Facebook in the beginning. I started off as a MySpace girl and I find myself using MySpace more then Facebook. Suprisingly, most of my friends are on MySpace. I think that if I knew more people on Facebook, I would use it more often. I still have both accounts and I check them every now and then but my Facebook is pretty inactive compared to my MySpace.
I would have to say that I like MySpace better…If only because I don’t get a million “become a member of the ______ group”. There do seem to be more educated, mature people on facebook though, so it’s a tough call.
I prefer Facebook over Myspace. I really like the way the social networking script is organized by the admins. Furthermore, the audience acts mature with respect for others; of course…generally speaking…
Typically Facebook, yet neither has the data or customer service model I’d like to see fully implemented.
I hope this changes through listening to customer feedback. But it likely won’t until different styles of leaders are hired at the firms.
I’ve always preferred Myspace over Facebook; most likely because I was using myspace long before I signed up for Facebook. I think it ended up just being a comfort thing in the end, like you tend to stick with what you’re familiar with, you know?
Facebook is little bit better than Myspace just because it seems more sophisticated. I guess Myspace is more for fun and Facebook is for networking.
I prefer MySpace.
They let their users play around with the code and give them a lot more freedom to design their own thang…
Hence 95% of MySpace pages look horrendous… but I like that feel of anarchy…
I use this site to get on facebook at school so I like it more haven’t tried myspace yet though Facebook Proxy
I prefer facebook. I prefer a clean, organized, layout that is fairly similar across the user base. I really dislike most of the myspace layouts. The blinking, moving, flashing, fonts, backgrounds, themes, etc. bother me. They are loud, distracting, and obnoxious. I also dislike the background music that is playing on many people’s pages. More times than not I do not have similar musical tastes to the person; I definetly don’t want the music playing. Maybe I am boring. Maybe I am too conservative. I prefer clean and neat. Not CrAZy and fL@$hY!!!
Thanks.
I prefer facebook over myspace. I am a college student, and alot of my friends constantly upload photos to facebook, and it is great to see these photos, as it is instantly updated in the rss feed of facebook. And also it is very easy to keep track of people status’s etc.
I like Facebook over Myspace. Myspace seems to clutered for my taste and Facebook can be fun just as much.
I prefer MySpace because it is more dynamic to design.
I have a myspace and a facebook account. I prefer to use myspace because it is more user friendly and way more customizable. I do web and graphic design for a living so I like being able to create my own backgrounds and ambience on my page. Also, facebook hinders you from searching for old friends. While that is great for security purposes, you can’t just surf for a person you remember from high school and click on their profile to see if it’s them. You have to first run the risk of having to say, “Oh, I’m sorry, I thought you were someone else…
I would have to say that I like MySpace better…If only because I don’t get a million “become a member of the ______ group”.
OH myspace hands down. I have been using it for years, and despite the fact I do have a facebook, I dont use it much as most of my friends are all on myspace.
Myspace is much cooler
Myspace, hands-down. It’s actually customizable. It doesn’t restrict your creativity and lets you design your page whichever way you want, going as far as letting you create wonderful div layouts. It’s also a great place to look up new music artists or to play a favorite song on your page. Facebook is horrendously bland, and doesn’t allow freedom outside of a network. This becomes troublesome if you’ve moved around and would like to see the profiles of people you knew but weren’t exactly close to. Plus… Myspace doesn’t delete you for “not adding enough friends from your network,” as occured to an account of mine on Facebook.
I have only used Myspace, but after reading these comments I think I will give Facebook a try!

There is obviously a lot to know about this. I think you made some good points in here also.
I prefer MySpace over Facebook, but for different reasonings. I use both. I like Facebooks simplicity, but hate all the damned application invites. MySpace allows me to at least block them. I am also a bit more partial to MySpace since I offer custom myspace design as a professional service. If Facebook offered something similar, I dont know which I would choose.
Can you provide more information on similar issues, or do you have some resources you can share where i can read more about such interesting myspace stuff?
Absolutely no doubt in this! I will definitely recommend Facebook. This connects people in nice manner. The network can be extended in a easy manner.
That’s the surfing video I like! Magnificent!
They both suck-diddly-uck. But for different reasons.
