Online fraud emails – take two

Posted in Online by Bes on Oct 06, 2004

There are many different ways spammers and others would like to get your bank account details, including your personal information. The Nigerian scam is one of the biggest scams in online history, and now it is adding more countries and names to its list of people in so called trouble with so many assets.

With all the recent Nigerian diamonds, oil and gold assets floating around in emails to almost every country on the planet, it was sooner or later that new schemes would come up with different names. I got the following email yesterday [hotmail], from someone at rose_bou1@virgilio.it . The exact formatting of the email is as follows

Good Day,

Please, kindly pardon me for any inconvenience this letter may cost you
because I know it may come to you as a surprise as we’have no previous
correspondence.I
got your contact as i was searching for helping hand in your country ,this
is why I decided to appeal to you directly for assistancebecause I’ have
no relations or friends in your country for help

I am Mrs. Mrs Rose Bou.from Ivory Coast. I am a widow being that I lost
my husband a couple of months ago. My husband was a serving director of
the Cocoa exporting board until his death .He was assassinated last january
by the rebels following the political uprising. Before his death he had
a foreign account here in Côte d?Ivoire up to the tune of $14.5M which he
told the bank was for the importation of cocoa processing machine.

I want you to do me a favour to receive this funds to a safe account in
your country or any safer place as the beneficiary . I have plans to do
investment in your country, like real estate and industrial production.
This is my reason for writing to you. Please if you are willing to assist
me and my only son Frank, indicate your interest in replying soonest.
Thanks and best regards .
Mrs Rose Bou.

First, it is easy to see the mistakes throughout the email. The sender keeps mentioning “your country“, yet never names it since they have no idea where you are living. Second, Ivory Coast resident having a foreign account “here in Côte d?Ivoire” with “$14.5M” for “cocoa processing machine.” One machine, or even 10 cocoa processing machines, cost that much? Surprisingly, her son Frank cannot help, since he maybe a duffer or a loser who does nothing to help his email bombing mother even after his father got assasinated. Who needs kids to help when you can ask strangers through emails, right?

Best regards to you also Mrs. Rose Bou.
