BlogExplosion, Battle of the Blogs and the blind shots
BlogExplosion has a new idea of “Battle of the Blogs”; you enter a competition to get votes against another site, or you vote for the site you like the best. You earn credits along the way. You wager some credits you have earned [you earn credits on the site], and those credits get divided between the winning site and the voters who voted for the winner.
However, I noticed that many of the competitions end up within a few seconds. Many people are simply visiting each site for a second [you are required to visit the sites before you vote for them, unlike real life elections], and then simply voting for the site that looks more attractive in their thumbnail shot on the voting page. Since the voters aren’t going to lose any credits for voting for the site that doesn’t win, they simply vote in hopes of winning. If they don’t win, they move on. Many of them are probably not even looking at the sites. Those sites which enter into a competition with another site having the similarly colored thumbnails stay in the competition longer, maybe because the voters don’t have time to see which one is better and simply put off the voting in order to vote for another competition in which one of the thumbnails may be more colorful. It seems that Lynda is facing similar issues.
I asked BlogExplosion about this. Let’s see what they say.

You have to act fast to vote or you don’t get to. Truth is, though, if you surf member blogs a lot, you’ve seen them before and you already know whether or not you like one. When I vote on the Battle, I look at both layout and content. I always at least scan the top post.

the world of blogging is a corrupt world indeed…

Rowan, yes, one needs to vote fast, and you’re right, many of the sites have already been visited, so it’s easier to vote right away instead of reading a few posts or at all.
DrAjax, it’s not corrupt, not yet. It’s just misused by a few.
