5 Things No One Likes To Blog About - June 2007

Posted in Online by Bes on Jun 13, 2007

With more and more people talking about new topics that draw blog traffic, there are fewer bloggers people who talk about random, strange things in an interesting manner. I consider The Reasoner to be both a personal and a non-personal site, though since almost every post here has some unique touch to it because of what I write, it can probably be said that this blog is a 100% personal blog. That is why I usually feel the need to talk about something random in this world, in this universe, something that people usually do not talk about, yet they should.

Of course, one of the reasons I do not go about posting completely random things every day is because of the output: what would such a random post about a very unique random topic provide in return, non-monetary and non-traffic for me, and something specific and unique to you as the reader?

As of today, following is a list of 5 things that most bloggers, if not all, usually do not talk about. The reason for such a trend is because many people focus on bringing in traffic and on what advertisors are looking for, and now how the blogger him/herself can take any topic and provide some useful output to the reader. This is also one of the reasons most of the bloggers today are not writers but only marketers and sales people, but they portray themselves as being bloggers and writers.

5 Things People Do Not Usually Blog About

  1. Keyboard

Who talks about keyboards? No, I am not talking about keyboard reviews, or even a post about how a new keyboard is making a blogger happy. How about someone writing about the very existence of a keyboard? What would life be if keyboards never existed? What would life be for one day if our keyboard broke and we could not find another one until the next day? Things like those make you appreciate keyboards more or less, and since keyboards are part of life, such appreciation affects our appreciation for life also. Interesting, isn’t it?

  2. Pen

Aaah yes, the pen. Many poets talk about pen the way lovers talk about their love. I wonder when bloggers will start talking about how a pen would feel, if it were alive, about a pencil? Would the two be jealous about each other? Would we consider a pen to be more influential and helpful to us in our entire life, or a pencil? Thoughts like that about any topic sometimes make ordinary things like pen seem more interesting than a blog itself.

  3. The walk from your door to the car, bus, or the grocery store

This is simply an activity, and for most people, it can be a boring activity if thought about too much. However, from leaving our home to reaching a car, bus or some destination by foot, how do our thoughts change because of the exposure to the outside world? Do we still believe in the same reasons for leaving the house, once we reach a destination, as we did before leaving the house? Even a small activity can be focused upon to kill boredom, or to come up with an interesting perspective about things in order make boring times more pleasing for yourself and your readers.

  4. Waiting while putting in gas in your car

I like smelling gasoline at the gas station. I do not start putting my nose in the gas pipe itself, but if I smell it, I enjoy it. However, during that activity of waiting while filling gas, what do you usually do? Do you always do random things, or do you always do something specific, like getting back in your car and waiting for the car tank to fill up? Who knew the amount of time, spent from putting the gas pipe into your car gas tank to the exact time your car gas tank is filled up, could be analyzed so much!

  5. Trying to glance at a guy/girl who is looking at you

I had a girl look at me today for while, continuously. I also had a guy, a grandmother and a dog do the same to me. I looked back, wondering why they were looking. The dog got bored of me and walked away, which was sad, but the others kept looking for unknown reasons. I tried to glance back, from time to time, wondering if I had a new stalker on the way, or if someone like the girl felt interested in me. Here, for me, the act of looking back and wondering was more important than the reason I was looking back at people who were already looking at me for long periods of time. Maybe Bes is just funny to look at?

These are 5 random things that many people do not blog about. Why? Because advertisors and many readers are not searching for such things, so many bloggers only try to focus on things that bring in more blog traffic.

Exercise: You suggest the most random, strange topic, and I will write about it.

To illustrate what I mean, you can tell me the weirdest thing, topic or idea in this universe, and I will try to write an article about it using a completely unique perspective. Some soul or even souls may have already talked about it sometime in the past, but I will present to you my own unique perspective about that “something” that you point out. I will not talk about it just to fulfill the task of talking about it; I will bring to light something that you may or may not find interesting, but hopefully you will realize how almost anything can be talked about nicely, when done with sincere passion. :)

Thanks for reading. :)

  1. inspirationbit :

I see that the Mad woman from the previous post has passed on you a few bits of madness, Bes.

So to continue this crazy series, here’s a topic for you to make love to: Screen. Where would we be without screens? They are everywhere - monitor, TV, cellphone, camera…. I’m looking at the screen right now, and you’re looking at the screen at this very moment as well… we’re shielded with at least these two screens - mine and yours, they’re not transparent screens, but sometimes we can see through them. What do we see? Where would we be without screens?….

  2. Jess :

Lol good idea. Although even the ‘random’ things can become repetitive if you run out of ideas… for example, I may look on my table and see “pen”. Tomorrow it might be “eraser”. Day after? … “paper”, lol. It takes a little bit of craziness random too! =D

Orange peels? Castration. Watermelon seeds. Mouse pads. A crystallized virus? Paper cut between the web in your fingers. Puppy love. Used condoms chucked on the street… eww. Lol. I’ll leave you to think on that one… lol.

Vivien-inspirationbit, thanks for the comment! lol @ the Mad woman.

Screen; very interesting! Ok, I’ll get started on it and see what I can come up with, soon. :) It is indeed an interesting thing, and it’s so common everywhere that we don’t focus on it at all.

Thanks! That is indeed something not that many people talk about.

Jess, thanks for the topics! Yes, sometimes people can go around in circles even if something seems unique. I see what you mean about related and repetitive randomness! Question: do you mean repetition as in pen, paper and eraser being related, or repetition as in randomness being repeated?

Those are some interesting topics. Ok, I think I can start on each of them too. By the way:

    Puppy Love = puppy/dog, right?
Crystallized virus = will have to get some biology books :p

Also, your last topic about “something” being chucked on the street, …… lol. Hmmmm, lol. I will work on in later, after other things are done. :p

    Thanks for the brainstorming! :D

  4. Jess :

Lmao. I was thinking of stuff that annoys me too (the paper cut was one) and the other was the.. dirtying streets =D I see it all too much here, and it’s really disgusting =\
Repetition as in the items are all related and aren’t completely ‘unique’. I was thinking of puppy love as in what adults call teenager’s love… you know? The way they say teenagers don’t know what love is yet, and the love and crushes are just ‘puppy love’…

  5. Bes :

    Jess, dirty streets….nice! :D

I see what you mean now by repetition. :) That will definitely make for a good post. Thanks!

  6. valerie :

Um, I usually try to locate the paper towels while fueling up and spend the rest of the time getting the diesel off my hands… lol

  7. Bes :

Valerie, good topic. ;) Does the pump not stop automatically when it’s finished?

  8. The life of a keyboard at The Reasoner :

[...] to analyze the object in both unique and non-unique perspectives. The keyboard is an example of a life that should be explained, but usually is [...]
