This movie is probably the quiet, surprising comedy “hit” among all teenagers in America. The movie revolves around a character called Napoleon. That is simply it. The whole movie keeps revolving around him, bringing into this revolving circle those around him momentarily, and then the focus shifts back to him. There is no single purpose of the whole story. The everyday life of Napoleon is shown very clearly, and simplistically. The actual way that Napoleon lives his life, thinks and deals with others is the main theme of the whole movie. This movie’s appeal lies mainly within teenagers, who view themselves close to Napoleon, or who understand the dynamics of his brain functions better than other age groups because of what they see everyday at school. Napoleon’s character may make you wonder from time to time as to whether he is acting or if he really is like “that” in real life, since his acting is superb, even though the acting is to convey the message that he is specially weird compared to others around him.
Even though this movie is a remake [of Peluca], the movie has already seen its share of a “cult” type following among young people. The style that Napoleon adopts to actually live his daily life throughout the movie is actually being used by several in real life, from using the same words to acting the same goofy way at times. The different characters in the movie all have their own uniqueness, and somehow there is some humor involved in each character. All the humor is not something that will make you roll on the floor; it is something that will make you smile and yet for older people it will bring into mind the question whether such limited humor is enough in a supposed “comedy hit” that every school kid is talking about and watching repeatedly.
The movie will probably make many people doze off half way through, or make them want to walk out of the movie or at least wonder whether they made a right choice buying their way in to the theatre to see this movie. All the jokes in the movie are a bit slow, and most of the time a generous smile will suffice to accommodate the joke implied within the movie. If you watch the movie, don’t forget to see the short clip after the credits have rolled away to see a short film added after the movie was released, in response to the huge success of the movie among teenagers. You should go see this movie alone if you do not want to risk taking other people with you and then disappointing at least one of them.
