Yahoo summer logo, and the lady and the announcements
Yahoo has a new logo for the summer on their main page [click on it to see their summer guide]:
That marks their entry into the summer with their tools and services to offer to help people navigate their “lives” through the summer [if you are lucky enough, you will see a fin sailing in the background of the logo - long live Jaws]. I saw that logo while sitting in a computer lab in a university library San Jose yesterday. Everything was silent, and I was going to replying to a friend via gmail. The only sound you could hear at that time was the tapping on the keyboards. For some reason, people type really “hard” a few minutes before they are about to leave. Maybe it’s a trend, or maybe it’s just this lab. I am not sure. All of a sudden, there was a very loud announcement over the speakers throughout the whole building, in a male voice:
Announcement over the speaker system at the university library in San Jose“Dear users, please note that the building is there for your educational and recreational purposes. While you are here to utilize the computers and other resources for your pleasure, many people come here just to steal your stuff. So please, be very cautious and keep an eye out for strangers who act strangely around you.”
While I was still wondering how “educational and recreational purposes” can go hand in hand and how “strangers who act strangely” can be spotted when everyone is a stranger to others in a building intended for strangers to frequent, a woman next to me got really mad, got up from her chair, and yelled “This isn’t an airport! Keep the announcements volume down so we can concentrate on our work!” and sat down, returning to her work. Everyone continued working, not paying much attention to her or the announcement that just reminded me of another appointment I had. I packed my stuff, got up, and as I was leaving, the announcement was repeated. I didn’t wait for the announcement to end to see the lady get up again.

ha ha that is funny…very visual. From the hard typing, to the lady standing up and making her announcement.
