Thought: I want to commit online suicide

Posted in Life by Bes on Jul 16, 2009

“Observing looking away…”I have had this idea for a while now. And I have tried it more than once on MySpace and Facebook. In our offline life, many times people feel the need to simply end their life for specific reasons, and many other times, other people feel the need to end their lives for various reasons. I want to do the same online. I have an online presence that is increasing on an almost gradual basis in different forms and areas. That has caused me to think of a thought more than ever before. I am thinking of committing online suicide.

I am thinking of the idea of deleting all of my online identities everywhere, delete all my posts, all of my websites, pictures, social networking accounts, wipe off as much information about me as possible, leave whatever I cannot touch out there for everyone to see, delete my e-mail accounts also, and go offline. I am thinking about the idea of commiting the online form of a suicide and going completely offline.

The online world is not a real world.

One of the main reasons majority of the people are online these days is because of the media coverage. Not a day will go by this year that a news channel will not think of Twitter. Not a day goes by now that millions of people in California alone do not think of logging into Facebook to poke someone. MySpace is thought of every minute in millions of people’s hearts. Text messages these days are slowing getting conquered by mobile notifications from social networking sites. Would leaving all of these be a bad thing? It, however, does not matter whether or not it would be a bad thing in the eyes of those who rate such a decision. No need to check anything online.

Being completely offline means less clutter.

“The fall is the fun?”It would be very good to be completely offline. No e-mails. There are phone calls and text messages. There are letters too. No more social networking on Facebook or Myspace. Time to socialize in person at different places and also the same place. No more hanging on to bright kite to spot whales and harpoon them. Time to go out and hunt in person. If you feel like you have been online longer than most others and have done online things other would only imagine, what does it matter if others think leaving the online world completely is a weird choice? The offline world offers so many goods and evils, that they can only be matched online by typing “OMG look at this video” or “I did this…” Time to actually do it offline instead of also talking about it online?

Being online means more stereotypical trends and people.

It is becoming very easy for people to forget that they go online by doing things offline. Does not matter. Slowly, the fun and excitement in “OMG I SIGNED UP FOR THIS NEW WEBSITE ITS RAD DAAAAMN!” sounds and feels so lame, that sometimes hearing such and similar online statements from people via e-mail or instant messages results in the offline world of boredom to seem like a better choice. Body language, misinterpretations, fake messages, fake affection and caring, and many other things are so easy to type out and show in the online world, that every day some other idiot emotions keeps flying in everyone’s direction. And if more people talk about it, it becomes the trend.

Been online for so long and so deep, being 100% offline sounds ecstatic!

I went online because I was curious at the same time. It would be awesome to commit online suicide because of being bored at the same time too.

What do you think? Now I must go offline now and try to eat, play, drink, work, and jump around. All offline, of course.

Thank you for reading.

How about cutting back on your online presence rather than completely deleting yourself? Or maybe just taking some time out, do a bit of travelling where you cant get to a computer/mobile network and then see how you feel…

Mike, thanks for the comment. Smile Hmmm, emails can be replaced with actual phone calls, letters, text messages and other things like in-person meetings, faxes and more? Smile

Research could be done at libraries and other places, the way research was done before the internet came alone? Hmmm. I wonder how that was.

Jerine, thanks for bringing up an awesome and important topic! childhood friends yummm!! We can be offline? Hmmmm, that is important thing you bring up! Hmmmmmmmmm!

Demiwood, thanks for the comment too. Smile Hmmm, that is a good idea too, to take a step instead of jumping away?

Traveling without access to a computer or internet feels awesome sometimes when I, for example, leave the cell phone behind at home [maximum for a day or so when I go out to have fun, for example]. I do wonder things like “Hmmm I wonder who called me or who texted me today….or what facebook notifications I am getting…” and other things. I wonder how it would be like to have no internet for weeks and months?

Would any of you 3 be ok without any form of internet for a week, or a month?

I totally feel you on this. You need time off. I also feel very weird when not around a computer for more than an hour or so, its an acquired thing, and we just need to reacquire some of the pleasures of real life without the thought/needs of any kind of technology – try sports or hiking or something new. Good luck with everything.

The online world can be as fake as you want it to be. Not everyone who are really active in the online world, can be considered as one heck of a normal person. I mean, they dont really see the real you with those facts that you have, and that thing , you should put that in mind. Just like making money online with google money master, you can say it would be hard at first, but when you get used to it, it works really well. Try it for yourselfSmile

The online you is really different from the real you . And yes, real life friends are way better, but there are really some instances that online friends can be really closer with each other. Anyways, if you want to make money online, you can try google money master. It’s hassle free and very easy. Try it now!

You feel lucky to eat, wash and do some other activities being offline. I cannot imagine my life without computer. I eat only when I watch a film on my PC.

Henry, thanks for the comment. Do you go online regularly?

I do like the idea of offlineism a lot, and at the same time, I realize how the online world can help in so many things. Do you think in our society, because of the online world getting more acceptance, many people simply go online more and more in order to fit in?

Lyn, thanks for the comment too! And yes, I remember a bit about the time when you added me on twitter. Smile

How is the online world of associations coming up so far, in your view?

What is the lizard upto these days?

Perika, thanks too. I completely agree, that we can put a fake-version of ourselves online.

Hmmm, interesting. Are you saying that people should try things fully and then decide on new ideas based on those trials?

Alex, thank you also, like everyone else, for commenting.

Also, hmm, are you and Perika friends and have tried that program or work for it? Also, could you please explain how that is related to the topic?

Alex [#9 above], thanks. Do you work online or are usually online to do things which you must do online?

Lynn, thanks for the comment. Are you referring to online suicide I mentioned above, or a real suicide? Also, does your comment mean that your main purpose for being online is to get links and business to your website?

kjt6101@msn.com, hmmmm, I’ve been told via e-mail that your comment raised some eyebrows for other users here. One way to a solution is to try to realize why you think you are a “loser”? How have you been since your comment? Are you being “rejected” online?

    Thanks all!
