If I could, I would spend all nights in the fog. Until, of course, I see someone with a hook.

The parking lot free ride prank

Posted in Life by Bes on Sep 08, 2005

Ever been to a campus or a huge parking lot where people are waiting like hungry kids looking for any open parking spot? These people ask anyone walking in the lot if they’re leaving, and start stalking them until the person being stalked leaves and thus there’s an empty spot the stalker can park into. You can try to have some fun in such situations. If you want to get to the other side of the parking lot or even the area, just to do something other than to leave, try this: ask any of the drivers who are waiting if they can give you a ride to your car. Once they do, get off at the point where you want to get off by saying “Stop here, let me see if I remember.” Once you’re out of the car, simply go toward your destination and most probably they won’t do anything other than hoping to run you over the next time they say you on the streets.

Sounds fun, eh? It is, unless you’re the driver. I was that unlucky driver in the parking lot today, and this teenage champ got a ride and had me drive him all the way across the half mile long parking for over 7 minutes to get to the other end, while I saw many cars leaving along the way and had to skip the chance each time since I had already promised [verbally] to give this guy a ride. Once we got to the opposite end of the parking lot, he told me to stop and got out of the car to “check where the car is”, and started walking toward the buildings.

I yelled through the passenger seat window and asked what was going on, and he looked at me and simply started cracking up, while still walking. I got out of my car, and told him to get in the car “or else.” He looked at me and started laughing even more. I started running toward him and he got all worried and asked “what the hell do you want? What the $%^&?” I told him to get in the “damn car”, and he obliged, acting like a 10 year old being bullied by a 90 year old. While he was in the car acting like a scared kidnapped victim unable to speak and wondering what will happen to him, I drove over a mile away in the opposite direction without looking at him at all, and then told him to get off at the entrance ramp on the other side of a freeway. He got off, with an almost crying face. It may have been unnecessary, but every joke deserves applause, and that was my way of clapping. I drove back to the parking lot and spent another 10 minutes and found a parking, finally. I’m sure that kid won’t ask for any more rides from strangers for a few days now.

Creepiness! I have a phobia of strangers needing rides…so as mean as it seems, I never pick anyone up. I think I’ve watched too many slasher movies and read too many urban legends.

  2. Will :

Haha good work! Revenge on pranksters is always key, unless you are the prankster, in which case it’s definitely not desirable.

  3. Chau :

Wow, he actually did that to you?!!! I’ve never even heard anyone doing that?! Wow… I’ve never given any stranger a ride anyways… Wow… I’m sorry you had to go through it!!

birdie –> Yes, it would be different if the stranger was on a highway or somewhere. Somehow, a free parking spot outweighs the risks unconsciously, no? :)

Will –> Yes, in that case it’s not desirable. After that incident, I thought of writing about it and remembered your "revenge in progress." : )

Chau –> Yes, that apparently happens these days. I am not going to give any rides either, unless I put a child lock on and only let the passenger out when I find a parking spot.

    Valerie –> lol.

And the next thing you know you see a red flash of light you think nothing of it then you see a blue flash of light hmmmmm what could that be you wonder flash red then blue red then blue red then blue red then blue red then blue red then blue then you hear a voice that say can you please step out of the car with your hands up….

  7. Bes :

Hi Brandon. :) Heh, that was funny :) . That did not happen, though it was a huge possibility. I hope that kid never tries that thing with anyone else again, or knows how to handle it better in the beginning.

What would you have done Brandon? Do you think simply moving on would have been a good option? Thanks again for sharing.
