If I could, I would spend all nights in the fog. Until, of course, I see someone with a hook.

Quiznos, extra cheese and laughing tummies

Posted in Life by Bes on Aug 10, 2005

I went to Quiznos Sub last night. I admit; I was hungry and I eat everything that tastes good when I’m hungry [and sometimes things that don't taste good at the time, but I know they are]. The person in front of me was about 40-45 years old, very healthy and chubby, had probably came back from work as he was wearing a white tucked-in shirt, a tie, nice polished shoes and still had his terminator sunglasses on his eyes while being inside the store at night. He ordered a large Chicken sandwich, a Mesquite Chicken with Bacon to be exact. He also ordered extra chicken in it, all the vegetables, literally all the dressings and all the sauces, including extra cheese. He also ordered chips and a single cookie to go with this “light” meal. When the cashier asked him if he wanted any drinks, he looked at the drinks machine and said “You don’t have any diet Pepsi or diet Coke?”

That puzzled me a lot. It made me feel like I am inside “Planet of the Apes” movie, or in such a world itself, where you think you are right, and others think they are right, and in the end you are all right for different reasons. I just couldn’t pinpoint the reason he felt he was right in even asking such a question or having such a thought after ordering so much, as even the cashier made a joke saying she doesn’t like not having a diet soda nearby when she eats. It wasn’t funny, but the two of them laughed it off as if it was the greatest line spoken in the history of mankind. If such a person ever is in a situation where he is in trouble because of health issues related to food, I wonder if he would be surprised if some people laughed at him instead of helping him, and if he would ever understand and realize that he did it to his own self, and that it has nothing to do with uncontrollable “food” genes.

  1. JErm :

So is Quiznos that good? I had a friend who wanted to buy the franchise for Sydney area but someone else beat her to it. Anyway, I laugh at people ordering diet sodas with their fatty meals too, but hey we might be on the wrong side of the equation according to these people. *lol*

  2. Bes :

lol, you’re right, we might already be on the wrong side according to these people.
Quiznos is very good, and at this moment, I find it to be tastier than Subway. Your friend should keep looking at markets which are still growing.

  3. valerie :

I’ve actually never been to a Quizno’s myself. We don’t have one here or in any of the nearby towns that we frequent. :-\
Maybe next time we go to St. Louis…

I think that is a very funny story. I like your comment about them laughing at the non-funny line. Very observant and interesting post.
