Thanks again Scott. Ads on sites can be good if they are not annoying, as you point out. Valerie also likes Adblock [first comment above]. I should try it sometime. If done right, ads can be a great resource for customers/visitors/readers.

Actually I think you are right on the money. I don't mind ads on most sites - they serve there purpose but the annoying interactive ads that pop up in front of the content ultimately forced me to start running Adblock in firefox to cut all the ads out :)

Sawai, thanks for the reply. :) You are right; if a content provider know that he/she has intrusive ads and still continues to display them, unless there is a very good reason, they are focusing more on the comfort of the advertisers than the readers. Also, many people do not change because many readers do not complain; at the end of the day, many blogs think "Hmm, Sawai and Bes do not like these ads but no one else has complained, so I can afford to lose these 2 readers and keep making money!" <a href="http://www.raproject.com/articles/bloggers-dont-know-what-you-want-unless-you-tell-them/" title="Tell bloggers what you want, or else they wont know what you want">More people have to voice and express what they want</a>.

Yes, non-intrusive ads work for everyone. The only thing needed is patience in order for the ad to work, and today, most businesses of any size do not have patience.

Thanks again Sawai. You bring up a good point that I will see if I can try to cover in a future post, yet again. :)

If a content provider has intrusive ads, i think he doesnt care about the reader but about the advertiser who actually pays him. No matter how much you tell them its highly irritating, they are not going to change, because at the end of the day all that matters is money.

If a content provider has non-intrusive ads, he cares for the reader and the advertiser and this helps in the long run. Both the advertiser and the reader are happy.

<strong>Valerie</strong>, thanks. Since I play on Yahoo Games with you a lot, you probably know more than me how this feels and works. Yes, that is indeed interesting, regarding ads when you are a paying member. You pay for something to get premium features, but ads on pages still remain. Adblock seems to be working for a lot of people, though I have not used it personally so far I think. Refreshing ads on java or ajax pages can be annoying sometimes. =\

Thanks Valerie. :) I guess one can stop being a paying sbcglobal member because the ads are annoying? :D

<Strong>Daniel</strong>, thanks for the comment. You bring up a good point: they might not maximize earnings, but they maximize reader and the experience of a reader.

That would be a nice research! I look forward to it. :) Thanks again Daniel.

Bes, good point.

Personally I am all for non-intrusive ads. They might not maximize your earning potential, but they maximize your readership and the user experience.

Actually I was wondering on a similar question, which is until what point should bloggers include ads. What is the optimal amount of ads. I will research about it and post some time next week.

Oh even worse about the Yahoo games? I have the All Stars and I am paid SBCglobal yet I still have to view those ads in the game room. And they refresh constantly, screwing up chat or whatever else. I have found that I can adblock them though and then if I get it just right, can drag that frame smaller. It still refreshes though. Bah.
