Now playing: Does Renting Books Really Save You Money?

The proportions of senses

While we are taught that knowledge comes through education, we ourselves are being confined to what educational institutes want to be taught to the students coming in. Whether it is the Epic of Gilgamesh or The Odyssey, we are shown history in a one-sided perspective.

This one-sided perspective is further simplified by movies such as The Alamo, or Troy, both telling stories in a modified fashion. While they are not completely inaccurate, they are actually portraying the movies as though they were the actual versions of the events, whether historic or mythical. In both cases, the story has been modified to fit the big screen and to attract as many wallets as possible.

Even more important is the fact that now everyone is going after the ancient battles, again both historic and mythical, like the upcoming King Arthur, to make a big bang in every ones bank account. Everyone seems to be taking the example of Gladiator and assuming that Lord of the Rings magic can be applied to every major epic movie with great battle scenes and a modified version of romance between them, even if romance is the smallest part in the whole story.

It is education in the making, the new type of education. Hollywood is going to be the 2nd school for all of us. It probably already is for many.
