I have resolved this problem. I don't give any car rides to carless people anymore. Unless it is a friend that owns a car that can return the favour.

Really, with these outrageous prices at the pumps, plus the costs of keeping a car on the road, why would I fulfill the transportation needs of moochers???

I used to have a carless friend and whenever we had outings, I always picked her up at her door and drove her home after. She never offered any gas money or anything, not even a cup of coffee. As if it was owned to her. Besides, she had the nerves to give me the could shoulder whenever I was 5 minutes late picking her up. You see, I should have called her to let her know I was going to be 5 minutes late. It never occured to her that I may have had to defrost the car (winter), or wait at a red light, or be stuck in traffic, so that she can get in a warm car. When I drove her home after, she insisted I wait until she's is safely inside her home. When I get home, nobody's watching over me when I walk from my car to my door. Or that other friend that always had a stop to make forcing me to reroute my way back home. Or that acquaintance that live right next door who thinks it's no big deal for me since I am going that way anyways. Or that other friend that was so nerveous on the road she held tightly to the handle, getting on my nerves every minute of the ride.

I am not a body guard nor a taxi driver. People that get in others' cars often don't have a clue they are using the private property of others. They don't have a clue as to how much it costs to keep a car on the road.

I now turn down EVERY request I get for a car ride, from carless people, be they friends or just acquaintances. Sometimes I just say I can't, other times I will tell it like it is : that I don't have the time, energy and money to take care of their transportation needs.

Plus, I find it extremely impolite nowadays to ask for a ride. Most people can barely afford their own cars; unless a passenger isn't willing to leave at least $5.00 everytime he/she gets into a car, (doesn't matter the distance or destination) he/she is a low-life moocher of the worst kind.

Think about it: you let someone in your car and they think they're allowed to do anyting: change the radio station, talk or laugh loud, talk all the time, tell you how to drive, cough uncontrollably, open the window, etc.

My own justification for this is: I pay for my own transportation, just as I pay for my food, clothes, etc. Why wouldn't moochers pay for their own transportation too? No reason for it. Let them take the bus or a taxi.

My old car was an assortment of old parts. at least your car is a consistent color. Mine had: three blue doors, one yellow, green body, several shades of rust, a combination of different tires. You have to worry about people leaving garbage on your car, I was afraid that if I left it out on a Thursday it would be picked up when the garbage truck went by. fortunately I got a new used car but still, people like to leave gum under my seats. thats the worst, people who chew gum and after its been used they stick it under the seats.

#3! Throwing litter out the window. That is a huge pet peeve of mine. It would seem that most of my friends think it is an ok idea. GAH!

The points are very thoughtful. But most people do not appreciate the work of others. They feel that what they do is right though others work would be better than theirs. The post was really good.

the line where u said,“I have to stop by these 4 banks to try to see if I can get a good student deal on a savings account.” before anyone robs a bank was the height of humor. LOL.

Very good points. Most people just don't appreciate what other people do for them, taking it for granted. I guess that also means more and more people just don't care what other people feel about them anymore. :p
