Text message via Sprint, against Hurricane Katrina

31 Aug

Has anyone ever tried using the Sprint PCS service to send a text message through their online website?

I am trying to send a text message through the website to someone I know who lives in Louisiana, to check if they’re ok because of the recent hurricane Katrina. All the other people I know in those areas are ok and we have communicated either through text messages or emails, or even phone calls. This specific person in Louisiana has a cell phone that’s still working normally, as they left a message on my answering machine early this morning while I was out. I couldn’t understand much of what they said, so I have been trying to call them and send text messages, as that’s the only way to communicate at the moment. On the SprintPCS text message site, I keep getting the message:

This message is being transmitted now, but has not yet reached its destination. Use the tracking number to confirm receipt of the message.

I use the tracking number and the link to track the message every minute, and keep getting this message:

This message is being transmitted now, but has not yet reached its destination.

It is now about 27 minutes, and I’m still getting that message. I thought may be it is related to the lines being congested or some error because of the chaos down there, so I sent a message earlier to someone else in California [after asking their permission, of course] to test text messages via the site, and I kept getting the same message for the first several minutes.

I checked again with the friend here in California a little bit later and find out that he got the message about 17 minutes later. The one sent to LA is still “being transmitted”, however. To everyone in those areas, good luck, and we hope you guys have the necessary help you need.

Valerie –> I hope they’re ok too. I haven’t heard back from them myself but another friend said she talked with them last night and they’re ok.

Chau –> No problem; thanks, and thanks for stopping by here also. :)
