It is time for the 8th sign that shows you may be a moody person. We are close to having the moody series finished. I thank you for reading along so far. The following sign is usually related to racism and discrimination. What I would like to do is to draw your attention to the fact that racist and discriminatory acts usually result from racist and discriminatory moods, which are obvious in many people everyday. As usual, please relax and get rid of any moodiness before proceeding. If I made you moody, hopefully you will feel better before the series is over.
Here we go. The 8th sign that makes you a moody person is:
8 : You act rude to people simply because of their ethnic background
Some people not only feel comfortable hanging around people from their own ethnic background, they also feel uncomfortable running into people from different ethnicities. These people may not be racists, but they sure act rude around anyone not from their ethnic background. If you are such a person, you act moody simply because of some stereotype you may have about other ethnicities, or because you may feel your own ethnic background is superior to every other ethnicity on the planet. You allow such a mentality to affect your mood, which in turn controls your behavior and makes you act rude around people from different backgrounds.
Following is am example where I saw many different ethnicities hating each other for no reason other than everyone being from a different ethnicity.
Example of students acting moody because of not liking other ethnicities
In my first Japanese language class, I noticed many people hanging around people from their own ethnic background, and at the same time, acting rude around everyone else. Even if everyone could speak English, these people only acted nice around people from their own culture, and came close to other people only when they needed something. These people were a hybrid of many other moody people that I have talked about so far, including the moody person who acts nice only when something is needed.
It did not matter if the above people were Europeans, Asians, Africans, Americans, or something/someone else; these people did not want to do anything with people from different background. I see such a thing happening in different ethnic communities almost everyday: people hanging out with their own ethnic people while being rude to all innocent people simply because of the ethnic factor. Such rudeness is a sign of moodiness that results from feeling uncomfortable because of stereotypes related to specific ethnicities, and such mood swings can result in one turning into a real racist individual.
Such ethnically moody people are also indirectly being racists
Racism and discrimination usually starts with mood swings. Some people act rude because they cannot stand the fact that a person from a different background may be comfortable enough to interact with them. I have noticed a lot of parents actually telling their kids not to talk to strangers when the kids talk to people from different ethnic backgrounds. However, these same parents, right on the same spot, have no issues with their children talking to strangers from their own ethnic background. These parents are actually creating moody little people, who will in turn grow up to swing their moods at innocent people and end up hurting others through racism and discrimination. Hanging around a specific ethnicity is one thing, but discriminating against any ethnicity is simply a case of either racism or discrimination.

Sometimes hanging around the same ethnic group causes tension between one another. When they stay too long in one group, they tend to feel that they belong in that group as they carry the views of discriminating others too much, therefore the individual becomes isolated in the end or finds another ethnic group to fit in. Some of these people can be described as sycophants, as what you have mentioned above. That can be quite annoying..hmm, sounds like I’m straying from the topic of moodiness to being rude.. =\

Some people tend to stay within their ethnic group because of the language barrier. Many immigrants feel more secure in a new country if they get support from their ethnic community, so they hang out always with people from their own culture and fail to assimilate well in the new country. I don’t share their views, I think that we should all explore and embrace different cultures and get to know people from other ethnic groups, nationalities. The sooner people realize that we’re all citizens of the planet Earth the better chances we’ll have that our civilization survives for many more centuries.

I think that it would be many people a lot of good to live in a different country for a while. When I spent a few years living in Brazil I realized that we’re all the same no matter where we were born.

Vera, good point. Preferring one ethnic group in almost any fashion can someones cause one to discriminate other ethnicities unconsciously. When a person stays for too long, he or she is actually starting to revolve their life around that ethnic group, as time in life spent on something means that time in life revolving around that something.
Actually, I think it makes sense, both moodiness and being rude.
Vivien-inspirationbit, good point. Language can play a huge role for such closeness, and immigrants also probably go through the same thing. I agree; people should work more to try to blend into all ethnic groups.

That is a great tip, to live in a different country. Living among different people and a different culture can help us be human where we have to act as humans instead of acting as if we can only be defined as being part of a certain culture or ethnicity and nothing else.

This a big issue in America, I think that the culture has grown with racism, don’t know how to say it..

Hi “Anchor Life”, thanks for the comment. When you say the culture has grown with racism, do you mean that the culture has allowed the racism to blend in, that it has allowed racism to grow by itself also, or something else?
