Rising gas prices, and on being mum about it
Not only has the gas price gone up in the last 2 weeks, the $3 barrier has been breached again too. Because of this, the ticket prices for airlines such as JetBlue has also gone up. What used to cost $39 for me to go on a one way trip to Oakland, less than 7 months ago, now costs $79, and what used to cost around $21 to fill up the gas tank in my car, less than 3 months ago, now costs at least $30. This is something that is not easily avoidable; in Southern California, if you are not able to drive around in your own car or a stolen one, your life is pretty limited.
At this time, however, people are not complaining much like before. Many people are thinking about taxes, and many people are worried about their classes. Many people are buried under piles of work, yet still other people are trying to screw their relationships by acting like snakes that have to shed their skin before summer hits us. It’s like the elephant in the living room; everyone knows it’s there, yet no one acknowledges it. It’s affecting everyone, and no one can walk around except by squeezing in through small spaces, yet no one wants to do something about it or make too much noise about it.
Why? Since doing that would mean taking on yet another responsibility, the responsibility of complaining about something that may seem unfair. We’re all spoiled; we love complaining about things that change by themselves, or that others work hard to change. Anything that requires us to do more than just talking doesn’t deserve our attention, and we don’t give a damn about it. No no no, we really don’t give a crap about it. Really. This is a post to try to get the ball rolling and spice up the topic a little bit for anyone who reads it, hopefully.
Below is an image of one of the gas stations in Anaheim, on La Palma Avenue. The gas prices in the picture were valid as of April 4th, 2006. It was raining, and I was stopped at a stop light. $2.75 for gas is the lowest price I’ve seen in the city this month.

I hear you, the price of gas just keeps going up and up. Noone out this way seems to want to do anything. They are more than willing to point fingers at everyone else and say that it isnt ‘their’ problem. We have the ability to solve some of these problems but I think that those who profit from the higher gas prices are just happy lining thier pockets.

Yeah our prices aren’t that high but neither is our cost of living. I paid $2.55 and then $2.49 for diesel the other day…

Ooh yeah, gas prices are CRAZY now! One day, I looked and saw $2.69, then the next, it jumped to $2.79, and I was like what the heck?!! So yes, anyways… Wow, $2.75 is the lowest there? Hmm… I think it’s like $2.73 is the lowest here, or somewhere around there… LOL.
Anyways… I responded back to your comments/questions in my latest entry!
Hehe, yeah, this is off-topic, but the characters I had to enter in before I add the comments starts with UCI. LOL. I just thought that was funny.

Dawn — > Yes, pointing fingers is really easy compared to doing something. Oh the gas companies, they are lining and filling up their trucks and castles, not only pockets.
Valerie — > Diesel here is so expensive; how much is normal gas [unleaded] in your area?
Chau — > Now it’s $2.79 in many places, and even $2.81 in others.
!!!!! UCI??? :@:@:@:@:@ THATS NOT RIGHT! DARN UCI AND UC SYSTEM! GRRRRRRRRRRRRR Now I must go vent off some steam. WHY NOT CSU OR SOMETHING????
