Reality TV may outgrow itself – Part 1

Posted in General by Bes on Apr 11, 2004

The current popularity of Reality TV makes sure that popular sitcoms are taken off air. Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Friends and Angels are going off the air even when they are popular.

The current series of many reality shows ensure that everyone watches the other side of humans; the greedy side. While we cuddle and sit in front of the TV, we are shown a different set of people, all having the exact same character and the exact same purpose; greed and the quest to get more in any manner possible. Now, these sets of “manner” do not involve any creativity; they involve back stabbing, gossiping, and doing some of the most “stupidest” things a human being can think of. While eating ants in your own house may result in your neighbors labelling you as a freak, do it on “Fear Factor” and add roaches, grass hoppers and spiders in the meal also and you are an instant celebrity, walking away with $50,000 easily.

The current set of TV programs are not suitable for young audiences, and movie industries have taken note. Movies like Finding Nemo and Home on the Range aim to go after both types of audiences; children and grown ups. It should not be surprising that more and more people are going out to theatres, taking refuge in the movies. It is also not surprising that many of the new movies are moving away from the trend of aiming at a certain set of audience [based on the age], but instead aiming on gathering as many people from almost all age levels.

Although the quality of television may be deteriorating, we maybe seeing an increased attention to improving the quality of cinematic presentations, specially after a long time of getting any chain of quality releases and instead being thrown movies at. Summer is here, and so is the good set of movies that everyone had been waiting for a long time. It is time to turn off the TV and head for the nearest cinema.
