Reacting to civilian and police cell-phone drivers

Posted in General by Bes on Sep 11, 2006

Ever seen someone get annoyed at other drivers for talking on cell phones? These annoyed drivers will sometimes go to great lengths to let the other drivers, who are blabbing on their cell phones, know that talking on the cell phone will grab the attention of those annoyed drivers. They’ll honk and they’ll drive next to the cell-phone drivers just to grab their attention. They’ll show fingers of all sorts to annoy the other driver also, as if driving fast and showing fingers while driving fast was safer and nicer than talking on a cell phone. Now, do you think these annoyed drivers have the same courage to honk and show fingers of all sorts at cops who are driving and talking on a cell phone?

In California, there are cops everywhere who talk on their cell phones while driving. Whether they’re talking to their headquarters or male prostitutes is beyond the understanding of any driver who’s driving near them. The same annoyed drivers who stalk cell-phone drivers will act like depressed puppies when they see cops talking on cell phones. Where does the sense of moral duty, of criticising the act of driving and using a cell phone at the same time, disappear at that time? No, instead of criticising, these puppy-wannabe drivers will stop driving fast and start putting on a big grin. They’ll start looking straight only in the direction that the road is going to take them. They’ll act so nice, it will make you wonder if they expect a doughnut from the cop in return.

These drivers probably do eat a doughnut when they get home, relieved that the cop didn’t kick their butts for daring to glance at the cop car.

Gah, the cops are always on their cell phones here, too. I’m not exaggerating – every time I see a city cop in my city and a lot of times for the county ones, he or she is on the cell phone!

Now, I think there’s something wrong with that. How can they be our protectors if they’re on the phone all the time?

Yes, I saw cops talking on cell phones even today, when it was only last week when California supposedly becamse the 4th state in the country to ban cell phone useage while driving. Dang!

Yes, they’re on phone while others around them think “Ok, if I drive slow and he keeps yabbing on the phone, he won’t notice this stolen car” or something.

Serious In holland its all about the money. We have to pay 250Euro for calling with a cell phone behind the wheels. Last time i saw a cop driving with and calling at the same time!!! its unfair!

@Cheap-Phone-Accessories.com, thanks for the comment. Is the 250 Euro a fine when you get caught with a cell phone call in the car while driving?

Cops on cell phones? Now that’s a interesting predicament. Distracted driving, no matter who’s doing it, is definitely not safe. Police offers should be setting a good example; it’s never a good idea to DWD (Drive While Distracted).
