New friends and free treats

Posted in General by Bes on Oct 16, 2005

I went out with my friends, and a few of their friends, last night. We ate really good food, and had a really good time. We finished eating around midnight, and decided to head for a coffee shop that’s open 24 hours a day. One of my friends was ordering a small cup of tea, that costs less than a dollar, and my other friends were also ordering similar items. Their friends were still looking at the menu, since they had never been to that place before. After a few moments of thinking, almost everyone was giving in orders for small sized drinks [tea, coffee, hot chocolate, etc]. The total was coming out to be around $20, which wasn’t much.

I decided to give everyone a treat, and told the cashier that I will pay for all of the things. As soon as I conveyed that message openly, few of the new people in the group [friends of my friends] immediately changed their orders to large cups, and each one got at least 2 donuts. At first I thought they were just playing; however, when I saw the horror and shock on the face of my friends, I knew these morons really meant it. My friends still kept their same orders, even though they had the right to change their orders. When you’re friends with someone for a long time, you can make them pay for your things even if it’s too much, and expect them to tell you that they don’t want to pay, without any hard feelings. When you’re new to a group, you don’t do that since your first impression is the only impression needed to know if you’re polite or a moron. These people weren’t doing it because they wanted to take advantage of a sucker offer; they simply thought it’s ok, as they had told all of us earlier that they were new to town and wanted to hang out with our group more often.

The total after this shuffle of orders came out to be around $65. Two of my friends offered to chip in, but I decided that it was something that I could do since the night was going so good and we were all having a good time. All I did was give my friends, who brought these people, the evil look that says “You suck, since you brought them” and my friends gave me the look saying “Yes, we suck, sorry, next time we’ll bring normal people and we’ll treat you to something.” We all went out of the store and sat in the nearby chairs, which were placed there by the next-door Starbucks for their customers. One of the girls didn’t drink her extra large Mocha and nibbled on only one of the 2 donuts she got. I ignored this since we had a good set of topics to talk about and had a good time. After about 2 hours, we headed for our homes. This morning, one of my friends from last night called me and told me that one of her friends who hung out with us last night, the girl with the two donuts and the large Mocha, really liked me and wanted to hang out with me again.

“Yeah right.”

^_^ Seems like we both had quite the evening. I’ve avoided situations such as that by paying for the meal after everyone’s eaten. We tend to cause a scene because everyone politely argues over it, but in the end the one that volunteers to pay does so anyway.

That’s incredibly rude, really, to do that to someone. I don’t think I’d be hanging out with them again either.
I don’t like when people pay for me for something unless I can make it up to them that day or soon afterward. Like the last time I went to a movie with a friend, I bought lunch and she bought the movie, it was all good.

    THAT’S TERRIBLE!!!!!!!!!

    I mean, um, that’s good?

Yesterday a good friend of mine felt really generous (and everybody was stressing like crazy about exams) so she bought EVERYBODY the drink of their choice from Starbucks. Now, we live waaay far down on campus and Starbucks is waaay up on campus… I went and helped her buy the drinks and bring them back. Everybody was really nice about it–most of them tried to refuse (but got threatened with a knife by this same girl… Weird, huh?) and they just asked for small drinks. But then again, we’re all friends, not friends of friends or freaks. Okay, maybe freaks, but not terrible ones.

When we meet, I’ll treat you to a cheesecake. Smile You can buy me… THE WORLD. =D
