If I could, I would spend all nights in the fog. Until, of course, I see someone with a hook.

Magazines in a typical hospital waiting room

Posted in General by Bes on Aug 28, 2006

Here I am, sitting in the waiting room. This room looks exactly like every other waiting room in any other hospital. There are a few chairs, several magazines, and a small window through which one can talk to the nurses and staff. This room has a coffee machine also, though. That’s weird; why would a patient need to drink coffee before they see a doctor? I’ve never seen a coffee machine in a Gynecology doctors’ waiting room before. Doesn’t matter, as I’m not going to have coffee anyhow. What the heck am I doing here? I don’t know, though I know I’m stuck for a while. That’s ok, let’s read some magazines.

Hmmm, magazines? There are all different types of magazines here on the table, so many of them. Parenting, world news, gardening, automobiles, entertainment, business, and even furniture. There is, however, no computer magazine. Nothing on internet. Nothing on technology. There is absolutely nothing here that even mentions the word “internet” or “technology” or “computer.” In fact, even the business magazine is a 2 year old magazine that talks only about flier miles and what to wear for a meeting. It’s just like every other hospital waiting room, where you will never ever find any computer magazine, or anything related to computers.

Maybe sick people are not support to read about computers or technology. Maybe you’ll get sick even more if you see a computer on a magazine. But stuff about fast cars, slow business, gardening gloves and having sex during pregnancy is going to cheer you up for sure. The people who design hospitals and waiting rooms know exactly what works best for their sick customers while they’re bored and waiting, don’t they?

oh…talking about magazine… the other best photography magazine is Pratical Photography besides Camera. Both from UK. However, Practical Photography is a lil more expensive. I saw it in the news stand today. Wanted to get it, but I didn’t bring enough money. Maybe it’s not that expensive, it’s just because I didn’t bring enough money so it seems expensive. That Practical Photography provides Photoshop guide too. However, if you want all-in-one guide book, Quick Steps series. The publisher is McGrow Hill & Osborne. You can choose whether you want to buy the Photoshop CS or Photoshop Element.
(Oppss…just realize I ran out of topic)
Anyway… the best place to read free magazine is always the coffee house. Maybe hair saloon too. I never bother to check out any magazine in the hospital. That’s why I always bring my paperback book everywhere.

the coffee is not necessarily for the patients, but for the people who need to wait for them and stay awake after waiting for hours and hours to find out nothing, and then have to drive home. coffee.

Jerine chan [AKA Sensei], thanks for letting me know. I’m finding it already.

Coffee houses and hair salons are filled with magazines, mostly the non-scientific and non-intelligent ones.
