Limiting of drive thrus in your city

Posted in General by Bes on Apr 26, 2006

I went to Carls Jr. after a long day. I do not like junk food anymore, though when I’m really hungry and there is not much in the fridge at night, junk food is seductive. I went to a nearby location that was open and noticed that there was no drive thru. I parked the car and went in.

Inside, I ordered a #2, plain, and asked the cashier why they didn’t have a drive thru. He said that the city of Fullerton allows only a number of drive thru establishments in the city; that’s why this specific location was singled out. The guy did not know why this was the case.

Two big reasons come to mind that could account for this. First, safety could be a factor, as having drive thrus could attract more drive thru robberies or shootings. Second, having drive thrus may entice people to order food without dining in. This second theoretical reason, however, doesn’t explain how dining in would make more money. Still, it would be interesting to know why drive thrus are limited in cities. It would be interesting also to find out if such a limitation extends to all the cities, or to certain cities. I’ve been trying to look online as to why this is the case, and so far, have not found any reason or information on this.

How about you and your experience at drive thrus? Do you have fast food locations in your city or area which do not have a drive thru? Do such places attract a lot of dine in people? Do you know why cities would limit the number of drive thrus?

Here’s a picture taken from the 3rd floor of one of the buildings on campus, taken on April 24th, 2006.

i dont know i dont fancy junk food as well as fast food anymore. is this mean ive grow older? i remember fast food seemed like a luxury goods to me when i was younger

  2. Bes :

Heh, maybe. I know people way older than me that live on fast food, so maybe it’s something not related to age? Either way, your body is liberated, congrats!
I’m hungry again, and the only thing close by is a Carls Jr. or Togo’s

That’s weird, I never heard of that before. Here we technically only have one drive-thru: McDonald’s. There used to be a Taco Bell but it’s now a dine-in Mexican place, there also used to be a KFC, but it’s now a Chinese restaurant. So just the one official drive-thru here…

there is a sign that says "drive-through parking" that would go perfect with this entry :)

Valerie — > Yeah, I had never heard of it either. Wow, hmm, so your area is almost "free" of all junk food? : O

Stacee — > Amazing! You should take its picture and share if you can. I would love to take its pic and make some video clips on it, heh. 8)
