Libraries should have carrying bags

10 Apr

How come no library carries official plastic bags, or even paper bags, to let people carry books with them? I checked out around 20 fat books yesterday, and my backpack could only hold around 5 books. So I carried 15 books almost half a mile to the parking lot.

Libraries have books. People check out books. People carry books out of library after checking them out. Not all people have 5 bags with them, or servants for that matter. Libraries should have something to help people carry out books. Have you ever run into something similar?

Hehe, the library I go to actually sell those bags that looks like the ones you get from The Gap with a drawstring on top…

Hmmm, that would be really good; those bags are nice. The libraries I’ve been to, including my campus library, doesn’t do that. May be I should ask more at the public and private libraries [and not just the campus libary].

Yes. The Vancouver Public Library in Canada puts your books in a bag. I don’t know why all libraries don’t do it. It’s a good idea if you’re a bookworm like me to buy a little canvas tote to take with you when you go…

I never thought of that but I totally agree. But since we don’t have public libraries – only our schools and universities have libraries, we usually dump the books we can get in our lockers and do some of the work in the library.

Yep! Every single time I go to the library I always bring a big sturdy straw basket to put all my books in :) Like you, I like to stock up! The only time I’ve seen libraries have book bags is when the weather is especially bad, and even then – the bags are plastic and easily ripped. I suppose they’re afraid people will take the bags? :/

Jessica — > That’s really nice. They don’t do that here, at least not at the libraries that I’ve been to in Southern California. Hmmmm, that’s actually a good idea. I might do that. :) Thanks.

Kxia — > We don’t have that many lockers here in Southern California, and the lockers we are able to get on campuses are, hmmmm, not that efficient at storing big things. What I do usually is to just take a book and study with it in the library. I only check out books when I know I’ll be stuck with them for a long time.

You’re right, but what kind of bags can they offer that would hold a dozen books? Both plastic and paper would probably tear. What they need is handsome, muscular, oiled-up men dressed only in g-strings carrying the books to your car for you. Yes, yes, that is exactly what they need.

Hey good idea! I don’t think I’ve been to a library with bags either.

Chelsea — > Heh, we posted around the same time. : ) Hmmm, a straw basket, that would look cool. I guess they are afraid if they keep plastic bags it will be too expensive for them, so they only deal with books, and not how you take out the books.

Lisa — > Yeah, the bags have to be made of some strong plastic or some special bags that can sustain such a weight. As for your suggestion, LOL!

Valerie — > Yeah, me neither. It would be nice to do that; check out books and take out my tote bags or straw basket. :D

I’ve always carried a backpack to the library, something I learned after the first couple times.

I think some larger libraries with bookstores sell bookbags. And I’ve seen libraries that have bags for wet umbrellas, but that’s not strong enough to hold books.

I’m carrying a backpack now too. I wish all the libraries give something to help, or sell something. Yes, the bags they have are usually really weak. =\

I really agree with this. It is very difficult for someone who never uses bags in carrying books in libraries. it was been very hard for them to carry more books that you could carry.
