Free newspapers for some students
My campus is divided into two parts; one is the main campus in Fullerton, and the other is a small satellite campus in Irvine. The main campus has newspaper boxes that sell the newspapers, while the Irvine campus gives away the same newspapers and more for free. The only free newspaper at the Fullerton campus is the University paper, the Daily Titan.
Majority of the students in Fullerton are people who work either full-time or part-time. Majority of the students in Irvine do not work. Majority of the students in Fullerton live on their own. Majority of the students in Irvine do not live on their own. The Irvine Campus cannot be accessed by a bus, and all the cars in the parking lot are almost brand new cars. The Fullerton campus can be accessed by either the bus or by walking to it, and majority of the cars in the parking lots are second hand cars that the students bought themselves.
I have spent a long time living in both Irvine and Fullerton, and I think both cities have their ups and downs. I also go to both campuses almost everyday, and my car used to look brand new at one point also. I pick up as many newspapers as I can at the Irvine campus, whenever I feel like it. Most of the time, though, I never read those newspapers.
Now here’s a question for you: what do you think of the fact that students on the main campus pay for each newspaper, while students on the other campus, who are on average economically in a better status, get the same newspaper for free? Do you think it is something that could be attributed to the fact that the Fullerton campus has a lot more students than the Irvine campus?

this is the first time i ever heard of such thing. did the university purposely set up two campuses to discriminate the status (or rather lifestyle) of the students?

Wow. Isn’t that like, unfair? I mean, all of the schools and universities in here give away their school newspapers for free.

you know what… Fullerton sounds more classy to me. And Irvine is just ummm… Maybe because we have a 5 stars hotel here in Singapore its called FUllerton…

Jerine — > Many people speculate that the campuses were setup to allow people from the "richer" city to have a place of their own. However, both campuses get students from the other city. Both campuses have a different status/lifestyle, though.
Kxia — > Yeah, it’s unfair in my view. The school newspaper is free everywhere; it’s the newspapers like US News or OC Register or a few others that are given free on one campus and not the other.

Jerine — > Hmmm [thinks]. That’s interesting. I think Irvine is more classy for many people, and Fullerton is classy on many levels also. Fullerton has far more homeless people and middle to lower class [income wise] people living also. Wow, that’s interesting. Fullerton is famous all the way over there. If I come, I can get a good discount for being from Fullerton? :p
