Earthquake gets 5 points. Panic gets none. So far.
Several hours ago, another earthquake hit California, making it the 5th earthquake since June 12th, Sunday. According to seismologists using equipment from USGS, there was only a 1% chance that there would be an earthquake within 24 hours of the earthquake on Thursday. That 1% was all that was needed to have another earthquake within 24 hours, contrary to the prediction of the seismologists.
People should note that earthquakes [tremors] and their after-shocks hit California everyday, all the time, usually every few hours. They are mostly very small in magnitude, and mostly in the mountains or off the coasts. Therefore, people do not feel them that much in the densely populated cities. The earthquakes like the ones that are happening these days are happening a bit closer to the population and are a bit stronger sometimes, thus they get reported more and are noticed more by the public also. Regarding the earthquakes this week, some people are not counting the small after-shocks, and some are. If everything that was noticed in the past week in the main cities is counted, then there have been at least 5 earthquakes this week alone.
Even though many people are already preparing their survival kits, people are not panicking yet, which is good. People are enjoying their lives actually. Some people are afraid of a “Big One” striking anytime, though that hasn’t stopped them from skipping movies, trips to the beach or hiking adventures in the mountains.
