Continuing sales events at car dealers

Posted in General by Bes on Aug 15, 2005

Has anyone else been overwhelmed by all the sales events for cars out there? Every car dealer has been having a sales event every week all this year. From the New Years deals to Valentine’s specials to 4th of July specials, these people keep having sales. Sales never end; the advertisements tell you to run to your nearest car dealer to get the deal. I would tell you not to run, but to walk like a turtle to these dealerships as when one sales event stops, another one starts.

Now everyone is talking about the “Family Values” and the “Employee Discount.” Ford, GM, Chrysler and everyone else has that deal, where you get to pay what the employees pay. Give me a break; the price comes out to be exactly the same as the previous specials, or sometimes a bit more, and that is the Employee Discount? No wonder you guys are loathed; you guys even rip off your employees, considering the price that they pay for the cars.

How long will this Employee Discount continue? So many auto makers having this discount at the same time can’t mean that such a discount isn’t just a marketing tactic? Summer sales event got pushed away in favor for this discount.Car Dealerships & their sales events Before we used to have seasonal discounts, which meant nothing as the prices are always hyped up when there are no discounts [which are a scant few weeks in the year], just to have the prices come down a bit to make them look as if they are lower prices, when in fact those are the original prices the car dealers had in mind to begin with. It’s just like the gas prices; when gas sold around $2.75 a gallon, people cried and moaned. Then the prices when down to $2.20, and people celebrated by eating more food. Now the prices have slowly gone to around $2.75 and up, and people don’t complain on a larger scale like before. Similarly, car prices have remained almost the same throughout these events, while even the accessories in the car, that used to be called “standard features” in the stone age, have become more expensive.

So, if you want to buy a car, I suggest buying it online at a fixed price, instead of going down to a dealership to haggle the prices. Sorry to say, sales people are not your friends, period. In this society, we say that lawyers are the devils. For me, sales people are even bigger devils, as when a lawyer wins a case, at least someone is winning, and many times it will be an innocent person who deserves to win. A salesperson, on the other hand, only aims to bring profit to himself and his dealership, so the customer never wins “more” than those who are selling the car. To all the car sales people who make an “honest” living, more power to you, and also, please try to get more people into the business who work honestly like you. The whole industry seems to be running on the assumption that the customer is stupid and very excited to get a car, and thus can be ripped off. Those of you that give the customer a really good deal without thinking more about your own profit, should get lots of praise.

I have many friends who sell cars at dealerships, and they know how to leave the car selling skills behind in their closets at home when they hang out with me. If you want to buy a car, don’t rush to an Employee Discount or a Family Tent Event or any sales event; these events will continue forever, with future, yet to be seen, events to be called “Your family member died event”, “Cheating on your spouse event”, “Ran over a squirrel discount”, and “Lost Virginity event.” These fads will continue to manifest the consumer world, and you aren’t going to fall for it.

I am getting so tired of the car discount commercials…is it just me, or are they really attempting to be unique about it?

It’s not just you; they really are trying to appear as being unique about it. "Family discount" and "Employee discount" is a really nice break from the "Summer Sales" words, so they are holding onto those words for a while now.

Most Auto dealers have Sales event just about any day. That is a way for them to market. Car dealers will always have sale any day of the week.
