Car gas preference?

Posted in General by Bes on Nov 25, 2005

I saw two gas stations on Wednesday, an Arco and a Shell, on opposite sides of a busy street. Both were offering the lowest gas at $2.29. However, the Arco station was completely empty, while the Shell Station was almost full.

Do you prefer a certain kind of gas for your car, or do you know someone who doesn’t like a certain brand? All gas stations have the same grade of gas available, as required by law. I frequently hear about how Arco is bad for engines, but I have yet to see a real live example or evidence pointing to this. What do you think? Even if you don’t have a car, do you look at different gas stations differently?

For me, every gas station is the same…I think I have an Arco across the street from where I live, but I don’t go there too often, unless it’s cheaper than the one that’s on my side of the street. LOL. I just go to the station that’s the cheapest.

Goodness!!! $2.29 for gas still? 8O It’s finally gone down to $1.95 here. Grin As for preference, I have none. Just the one that’s closest, which equals less lights to cross and traffic to avoid.

I don’t, but I don’t know enough about it. Steve does, we’ve four regular stations in this town (and one "farmer’s right outside of town) and he will only go to one of them really. Says the others don’t have as good a quality. Something about ethenol???? Who knows.
I know that my mom will pass up one station that might be a bit cheaper because she has a gas credit card for the other, instead of using her regular credit card or something. So maybe that’s another reason the other station was full?

Chau — > Me too, I try to go to anything that’s the cheapest. I don’t care if it’s Arco or Shell or bell or Narco. Whatever its name may be, as long as my car can take it and it’s at a good price, I consider it good.

birdie — > Yes, $2.29 is the cheaper version. These days it’s $2.33 around here. I know a few people who’ll drive 5 or 6 miles to get cheap gas. I haven’t calculated yet if that trip [gas consumed] offsets the savings or not.

valerie — > Ethenol, interesting. I will try to see what I can find on that and check if the quality does matter. May be, I do see Shell gas cards being advertised heavily.

Well, my MINI dealer just told me when I had my car in for service that they recommend that I only use either BP or QT for the premium gas that my MINI Cooper S requires Confused.

ARCO is part of BP, if the BP you’re refering to is:

    http://www.bp.com/

which is the new company by British Petroleum, I think. If that’s the case [of the ARCO BP being the same as the one you're mentioning], then any gas recommended for a Mini must be good. How many miles/kilometers do you get on the Cooper?

Yes, that’s the BP. The pumps at the BP say that they use Amoco gas, so I guess it’s all just one big family. For my MINI, I actually wish that I got better gas mileage considering how small the car is, but I did get the supercharged one and I do tend to drive it a bit hard at times. Oops! So in the city, I get around 22-23 mpg and I really only do city driving with very little highway driving. On the highway, I think I get around 33-34 mpg. Overall, it’s probably not that bad for such a fun little car.

Hmmm, that’s good mpg in my view for the MINI. Hmm, I guess it is good gas then. That reminded me, I need to take my car in for maintenance [again]; actual mpg is going down again.

I prefer the Shell-station even though the gas is produced by the same refinery.
And i would not put my car in risk too.

After doing a lot of extra research when we decided to do a niche site on the MINI Cooper, we found that not many people knew at least 2 things.

First Mini Cooper and MINI Cooper are 2 completely different beasts.

Second not many people realized the New Generation the started the MINIMania is built by BMW.

Check out the Articles on CooperExperts.com to find out about some of the products available for these fine cars!
