Hands up if you dream of faraway destinations, but never get around to booking them because you think they’ll cost the earth? Many of you, I bet. I used to think the same, but then I became a little sneaky and started looking into ways to cut costs – all inclusive, pre-booked extras, such as Airport parking from Holiday Extras, and using Airmiles, all mean a cheaper far-flung holiday.
Thailand has long been on my must-visit list, and with so many stunning beaches and beautiful countryside to explore, it’s no wonder many others agree. Cha Am is a fantastic alternative to the more popular, bustling resorts, such as those on Koh Samui.
You’ll fly into Bangkok, and if you can, why not spend a few days exploring this extremely busy, and diverse city? Cha Am is only around 3 hours away, so it’s definitely do-able. Of course, you do have the slight inconvenience of a long-haul flight, and that means tiredness, but I’ve discovered a way to combat that too!
Booking a night pre-flight in an airport hotel is a great way to catch a few extra hours shut-eye before you board. I have always hated turning up at the airport, feeling like a zombie, because of an early flight, or the impending doom of a long-haul journey. Sleeping literally a few metres from the airport, in most cases, has so many advantages, it’s certainly worth looking into.
Most large airports will offer a range of hotels, including many Manchester Airport hotels on offer, so there will always be something to suit any budget. If you go one step further and combine your airport stay with pre-booked airport parking, you’ll often find you save even more, and you add in a world of convenience to your travel plans, not to mention an earlier, more rested start. That’s what holidays are all about, after all!
Check out East Midlands Airport parking if you’re flying regionally, as this is one I’ve used several times.
When you arrive in Cha Am, you’ll be glad of that extra bit of rest, as this is the way to start your truly relaxing, long-haul break. Despite the laid-back vibe, there is plenty to do in this growing resort, but the first place I’d be heading, and where I’d be spending most of my days, is the stunning, white sand beach. If you’re picturing the perfect spot to waste away a few hours, this is it.
When you do get restless and want to do something slightly more active, get your comfortable shoes on and get out and explore the area and nearby markets. Public transport is available, although not the best, so it’s possible to head a little further afield. Sam Roi Yot National Park is one for nature lovers, with dramatic mountain scenery and many examples of wildlife and trees to explore.
Alternatively, jump on a boat trip and do some diving. Thailand is famous for its marine life, and you’ll find colourful, diverse species and coral under the surface. What a memory to take home!
When night falls, this is not the neon lights of Bangkok, so expect laid-back, chilled-out and relaxing. It’s all about the pace of life slowing right down, enjoying a good meal and a few drinks whilst the stars glitter overhead. Thai food is famous worldwide, so try some in its natural surroundings and see how deliciously fresh the flavours are. Seafood is particularly good here.
Thailand is beautiful, diverse and a true paradise destination. Save those pennies and head East, your lifetime memories will be ones to treasure.
