The day Bes and a Squirrel aimed for the same nut04.11.07

Bes was driving back home from FedEx Kinko’s after faxing some papers to some institutions. Bes was planning a really nice topic to write for this site tonight. About a mile away from the house, Bes saw a small object fall from an upcoming tree. The object bounced on the car below the tree and ended up near the middle of the street. Bes saw an opportunity. Bes wanted to speed up a bit and crush the nut that had just fallen off the tree. In the middle of the sudden weird excitement that surrounded the atmosphere, Bes did not realize that there was a great force nearby that was also rushing towards the same nut.

A Series of Blamable Events03.27.07

Here is what happened today from around 5 am in Bay Area until around 11 pm in Orange County and Los Angeles. This should give you an idea about 2 different ways to look at certain days.

I woke up this morning around 5 am to get ready to head for the airport. I printed a few things on the computer and then got a ride with a friend. We left the house about 15 minutes late and got stuck in traffic. Once at the airport, the plane left about 30 minutes later because the cleaning crew was taking some time to clean the plane, and maybe also because the pilot was walking around enjoying the terminal.

Retiring online and offline is not for me02.25.07

If you had a choice to spend most of your life working hard and not being happy, while hoping for very happy and enjoyable last few days of life, would you choose it? The first thought that comes to my mind regarding this is about the lives spent being unhappy and at the same time being focussed for almost 60 years in order to be financially independent during retirement. I would not want to lead such a life, and I am not going to.

$37 tip for a $15 haircut: a mistake or an investment?02.05.07

I went to get a haircut today. The girl who gave me the haircut was a student who did haircuts to earn extra money. She was very nice and told me a lot about her personal life. In the end, the bill was $15 and I gave her what I thought were $23. She started thanking me aggressively, saying “You’re so nice! Thank you!” She wrote down the days she worked on her business card and handed it to me. She also told me that since I was new to the neighborhood, we could hang out sometime and she could show me around. I thought she really liked me, and was thus overjoyed at having me as a customer. I would soon find out something that would cast doubt into my theory of why she was so happy.

Christmas and New Year eve plans for 200612.21.06

Hello again. :)

I’ll be traveling this Christmas eve to San Francisco for another operation, so it might take a while before I respond to comments. If I manage to get access to a computer and all goes well, I might be able to post while I’m traveling. Last Christmas and New Year’s eve were interesting, and for me, this year puts the best of movies, TV dramas and circuses to shame, so I’m hoping things will go well from now on.

I still have to buy gifts for many people, and as usual, I wish I had planned this earlier. If you’re still thinking of gift ideas for either Christmas or the New Year, see if you like the candles that Valerie makes. It’s better to send late gifts instead of not sending anything at all.

Happy Thanksgiving, and happy dissecting11.23.06

Happy Thanksgiving everyone, and off to the dissecting table I go. The cutting will happen in a few stages, so in between the stages I may be able to whip up a post or a picture or two.

If I survive the operation [whether or not it's successful], I’ll see you all again soon.

Take care. :)

The end of an era to mark the beginning of an end11.15.06

It seemed a bit warmer than usual today. It’s still cool, but a bit warmer. Tomorrow is Thursday. I like Thursdays, as they bring most people closer to the end of the week. Next week is thanksgiving, which is going to be good for many people also.

A weekly perspective - November 12th, 200611.12.06

This has been an interesting week. I had to get my computer working again as Windows decided to crash because it got jealous while I was talking to Thunderbird instead of Outlook. I lost most of my writing and my books in progress. Then I find out that my car, which is at a body repair facility because of my Halloween gift, might not be back in my hands until the 30th of this month. On top of that, my doctor told me that my health has gotten a bit worse compared to before. A year has already gone by. We’ll see.

Viral Hoax Groups on facebook09.29.06

If one hundred people join this group, I’ll travel to Darfur and donate a lot of money there.” That’s what one group administrator claims on his group page. Another one promises to send someone to college if 50 thousand people join a certain group. Still, another one claims that the group creator will donate $1 for each 100 members to a worthy cause. These groups are all springing up on Facebook, and majority of them are clearly viral groups that are nothing more than simple jokes or hoaxes that can never be verified nor disputed. The funny thing is that people are actually buying into such stories.

Observation: Online immaturity to shield disorders08.10.06

Why do many people get excited over online relationships that they don’t understand, and at the same time, ignore the heeds they are given? These warnings show these people that their emotions are simply a result of being overexcited? These people, when running into something real in life, forget all about their online emotions and act as if nothing ever happened, leaving any other person involved in that online excitedness in a disarray of confusion, thus actually showing that they never cared in the first place. The very emotion that they considered a hallmark of online emotions and superior to their real life becomes the very thing they ignore and consider a hindrance to their new excited self, the emotion they feel in real life. It’s a cycle that keeps on going, something they blame the world for throwing on them, yet it’s a psychological disorder tha they’re not willing to acknowledge or address.

Monday rush - a Tuesday reflection05.09.06

I woke up late yesterday. I got ready late. I ate late. I drove late. The train arrived late, thus causing my car to get stuck on the road once again, and thus on the road I was late too. I arrived at my destinations late. I met people late. I got to the post office late.
