4 Tips to Stay Safe While Traveling

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be? Would you travel to Cairo in Egypt to see the Pyramids, Peru to see Machu Picchu, Paris in France to see the Eiffel Tower, or Las Vegas to see the Eiffel Tower in Paris?

In this vast place we call home, traveling across the globe has never been so easy or fun. However, planning a trip can become a major task.

Not only do you have to book airfare, hotels, museum tickets, and pack luggage, you also need to be vigilant and remain safe wherever you go. If you are going to a country or place you are unfamiliar with, reading up on safety beforehand is a must. Also, investing in travel insurance is also something that is being recommended by almost every country travel board now. Travel insurance will not only protect you financially, but will also give you peace of mind wherever you are.

These wise practices before going on travel can protect you and your family. Follow these 4 tips to ensure you have a safe and memorable trip regardless of where you’re headed:

4 Tips to Stay Safe While Traveling

Travel the world - safely

  1. Get Travel Insurance: Travel Insurance is a very affordable item that should be on every preparation list for travellers. The total cost of travelers insurance can be as little as 4-8% of your trips total price. The best part about travel insurance is that it helps you financially cover the cost of emergency dental or medical bills overseas.

It also helps with hotel or flight cancellations. And the best benefit of travel insurance is that it helps you financially with lost luggage!

With travel insurance through companies like Good2Go you can be guaranteed that if something unexpected happened to you wherever you are, the travel insurance plan you purchased has your back.

  2. Research travel routes and hotel surroundingsResearch affordable, high-rated hotels/motels: The place you stay outside your home on a trip is hopefully comfortable and meets your needs. Thankfully nowadays we have better search methods of where to stay.

People rate the hotels and give their feedback on dozens of online sites every hour of the day, including on Google itself. This in turn helps you make a good decision of the best place to stay.

  3. Read up on the Laws of Your Destination: For any country you are traveling to, it’s a good idea to make sure you read the laws and regulations. Every country has different laws compared to the ones you’re accustomed to. It’s probably a wise idea to brush up on common laws, and maybe even some uncommon ones.

There’s always that wacky law you’ve never heard of. For example, in England, eating mince pies on Christmas is prohibited! Weird, huh?!

  4. Let someone know wherever you goLeave a copy of your travel itinerary with family/friend: When traveling, make sure family members or friends know where and for how long you will be staying for each phase of your trip. It is a good idea to have someone know exactly where you are if something unexpected or unfortunate were to happen either to you or to someone else you know. That way, you can be reached quickly in case of an emergency or they could try to find you in case you get lost on a hiking trip, for example.

Leave info such as flight numbers, hotel names, room numbers, and phone numbers for these places.

Having a source of contact back home could help you in desperate situations!

Traveling is one of the best, most exhilarhating things to do in life. You experience something new you’ve never seen, live the life you’ve always dreamed of, and make memories that will last a lifetime.

Traveling is great, but coming back home can be wonderful too. So make sure you follow the above tips to make your travels as painless and easy as possible. Hopefully they will come in handy for every trip you make far away from home.

Happy travels!

I find it very difficult to research hotels online. I have had several bad experiences where I thought I had found a gem, only to be disappointed when I arrived. Pictures on the internet can be very deceiving. Any advice on reliable websites (other than the typical)? –neil sherrod, randolph county, NC
