Thought: Trends of mass opening of accounts for 5 types of online services09.11.07

With more and more new online services popping up, I am getting at least 10-12 new site sign-up requests every week. I regularly wonder if many people simply open such online accounts and visit them regularly, or if they keep on opening new accounts and never visit them on a regular basis after that. Such a trend has me thinking: the online world has seen such mass hysteria of opening new accounts for different services before.

Listed below are trends of 5 different types of online services that have drawn a huge crowd after them. I have listed each trend in the order it became popular, going from the oldest and longest running trend, opening e-mail accounts, to the youngest and most famous trend today, opening social networking accounts.

Question: Do you prefer responding to non-critical e-mails immediately?09.09.07

Today’s question is very brief, and revolves around one of the most widely used internet activities: e-mail. If you have at least one e-mail account, do you prefer responding to non-critical e-mails right away?

Following are some benefits and downsides of responding to non-critical e-mails immediately and responding to non-critical e-mails after a certain time frame. By non-critical e-mails, I am referring to personal, business and other e-mails which do not require your immediate response.

Question: Would you prefer starting a business with a friend or a reliable non-friend contact?09.08.07

Today’s question can be a lot of fun and stress at the same time if you have ever thought of opening a business with someone. Would you start a business with a friend or a reliable contact who is not yet your friend?

For this question, imagine the business you want to open can be either online or offline. Also imagine that both your friend and your reliable non-friend contact specialize in the same field and can thus be suitable candidates for opening a business with. Last, imagine that the non-friend contact has shown reliability in other business situations, and that you do not know about the business reliability of your close friend; you only know that your friend is your close friend. To help you figure out the answer to this question, I will list below 3 random benefits and downsides of opening a business with either choices.

Thought: On feeling obligated to comment on friends and contact’s blogs09.06.07

There is a thought in my head about an increasing trend: people expecting their friends and contacts to comment on their blogs. Many of my offline friends have blogs or other types of sites now. As time passes, more and more people tell others about their sites. Some contacts expect me to regularly participate on their sites.

From what I am noticing in several personal and non-personal cases, a slowly increasing number of people are looking down at friendships and other relationships simple because someone does not comment and participate on their site regularly.

5 ways some Taxi Drivers create stress for other people09.04.07

Image of a yellow taxi cab miniature toy with the driver and 2 passengers inside it - the words taxi are written in blue on the outside of the taxiMany taxi drivers can cause a lot of stress for people around them. I see many taxi drivers act so aggressive daily, even when they do not have any passengers. I wonder if taxicab companies train each taxi driver in programs like “aggressiveness” and “turning your car into a fear spreading machine.

In this article I would like to describe the 5 small and indirect trends that cause people stress because of some taxi drivers. I have personally seen such behavior in many countries in at least 3 major continents. See if you can spot something you have noticed or experienced yourself.

Question: Do you have any single contact listed on more than one of your online instant messaging or e-mail accounts?09.02.07

Today’s question is a “weird” one, according to someone who saw a draft of this question. Have you added any same contact on more than one of your instant messaging or e-mail accounts?

By having the same contact in multiple accounts, I mean adding the same friend to different address books in the different e-mail accounts you may have, or the more than one instant messengers you may be using. For example, I have several people listed on all of my Gtalk, Yahoo Messenger and my AOL AIM accounts. Thus, I see the same people on all 3 accounts.

3 random pros and 3 random Cons of having the same contact in your multiple instant messaging and e-mail accounts

Question: Do you consider online and offline friends to be equally important?09.01.07

Today I would like to ask a question that may affect your personal life directly. Do you consider your online and offline friends to be equally important to you?

For this question, let us limit the socially broad definition of a friend to some specific things: a friend that can help you whether or not they gain something from the help, a non-business friend in a non-monetary friendship interacting on a personal level, a friend you find important because of the value of that person and their friendship and not because of their religion, ethnicity, cultural background, political views, gender, sex, etc. Also, by an online friend, I am referring to friends we make solely in the online world. By an offline friend, I am referring to friends we make solely in the offline world.

Some people prefer online friends, while others prefer offline friends. I try to mix the two in the offline world, to hopefully achieve something that has at least some offline value to it.
