Christmas and New Year eve plans for 200612.21.06

Hello again. :)

I’ll be traveling this Christmas eve to San Francisco for another operation, so it might take a while before I respond to comments. If I manage to get access to a computer and all goes well, I might be able to post while I’m traveling. Last Christmas and New Year’s eve were interesting, and for me, this year puts the best of movies, TV dramas and circuses to shame, so I’m hoping things will go well from now on.

I still have to buy gifts for many people, and as usual, I wish I had planned this earlier. If you’re still thinking of gift ideas for either Christmas or the New Year, see if you like the candles that Valerie makes. It’s better to send late gifts instead of not sending anything at all.

Time Warner Cable: no followups with customers12.17.06

An internet connection is to an online experience what a heart is to a body. Without it, you can’t browse anything unless you like saving pages offline. The overall browsing experience has been good since I switched to Time Warner Cable last month. Even though I had an issue earlier this month regarding bad communication from Time Warner, the overall service so far has been nice. Last night, however, the connection dropped without any warning around 9 pm. I tried a few things like restarting the modem, disconnecting the cable wires and changing the settings on the modem and my computer. Nothing worked, so I decided to call Time Warner.

Misinterpreting things online12.13.06

Communication is the global key in any relationship building process. Whether it’s a business relationship or a friendship between two people, it’s the concept of expressing your thoughts that makes the most impact for many people. The medium of communication used is important in conveying information also, and this medium can greatly affect the manner in which a piece of information is received and interpreted. Saying something in person is sometimes more important than saying the same thing over the phone. Similarly, doing certain things online make certain situations more complicated than they ought to be. Misinterpreting things online is much easier than misinterpreting them in person. At the same time, in some scenarios, clarifying things online can be much easier than clarifying things in person.

Backing out of classified ad deals12.11.06

Selling things online is a great way to make more space in your home. I like using online classifieds like Craigslist to get rid of things like movies, books, and sometimes furniture. When it comes to asking me questions, people usually contact me through email and sometimes over the phone. Many times people will ask me if I could hold some things for them until they had time to pick it later during the week. Most of the time, these people never finalize the sale by never showing up.

Time Warner Cable: no communication12.07.06

Recently, Time Warner Cable bought Adelphia, the company that provided cable services in my area. I switched to Time Warner Cable from SBC DSL service a few weeks ago. I got onto the Adelphia network which, I was told, would soon be upgraded and switched over to the faster and more efficient Time Warner network.

PeoplePC automatically disconnects12.04.06

When I embarked on my recent short trip, I decided to get PeoplePC in order to access the internet when I didn’t have access to a cyber cafe or a computer lab. PeoplePC was and still is advertising cheaper dialup rates with no contracts. Signing up through their website was easy, taking less than 4 minutes. While PeoplePC tells everyone to download their software in order to use the service, I simply created a normal connection in windows and dialed right into PeoplePC using the username and password I had chosen. This way, I could avoid using their software and actually have a faster connection on some levels. However, every time I was surfing the internet using PeoplePC, the connection dropped automatically every 3 to 4 hours without any warning.
