The 2005 *boring* Oscars02.27.05

Many of the people I know here in So Cal are not watching the Oscars tonight. This is different that what used to be the case before; everyone wanted to watch it if they could. Not only does this years Award ceremony sport movies that the mainstream audience of teenagers and “youth” have not seen, it also features some movies [such as the documentary "Wasp" ]that never opened widely in the U.S., leaving majority of the audience having no access to such movies. Even “The Aviator“, which will win the most awards, has not been seen by the majority.

It would be interesting to know if the other states prefer to watch the show tonight more than California. The only thing interesting may be the new comers to the movie industry, and the veteran Chris Rock being the host.

Tsunami deep creature hoax, & giving your junk email to others02.25.05

I have been getting emails about the discovery of creatures from the deep sea that washed ashore after the recent Tsunami disaster. People who get my email for the first time and they don’t know me much seem to have the impression that it’s ok for them to forward me all the emails and junk mail that they get and make, even when I don’t know them personally or at all. I won’t be mailing the junk mail that I get at my home to your home if I found out your address; why would you be emailing me these without me asking for it?

Hotmail emails not accessible in Firefox02.21.05

At the moment, Hotmail is for some reason restricting access to emails for some users who use Firefox; you can log into your Hotmail account, but you cannot view any messages in that browser. All you see is the image below. Accessing Hotmail with Internet Explorer works normally and without any issues. This may be a glitch or an update that resulted in a glitch and should hopefully be solved soon. I have contacted Microsoft about this.

This issue is affecting my hotmail accounts and I have confirmed this with some other users also. Clicking on any folder, including the “Inbox” folder to view current new messages or the “Junk Email” folder, results in just a message that there are no new messages for that folder.

Besides that issue, the disk space in the email accounts is being reported incorrectly in Firefox, as shown below. Internet Explorer shows the disk space correctly, however.

Hotmail error in Firefox

Internet Explorer works fine and shows all the emails and their contents normally.

If you sent me an email to my Hotmail address and I haven’t responded yet, please use the “Contact” function on the left hand side of this page to email me.

Update
The issue seems to be resolved now. Emails and their contents are now being shown correctly in Firefox and disk space useage is also being reported correctly. If you are still experiencing issues with your Hotmail or MSN account, please let me know or post here.

Update 02/28/05 - 7:00 pm PST
The issue has resurfaced again.

Gmail Invitation Glitch02.18.05

If you have [or if you get] a Gmail invitation from Gmail directly, from me or anyone, you may encounter the following error:

Google Gmail Invitation Glitch

Don’t worry. The message appears only temporarily. Try again within a few minutes [if not a few seconds] and you should be able to continue.

Gmail extending its invitations to those who signed up02.18.05

If you signed up with Gmail to be notified of any “invitations”, Gmail should have sent you a “welcome” email with an invitation. Google is expanding its invitations in huge numbers to people who signed up with Google to be notified of any updates. This may be an indication that Google may open the doors the service to anyone pretty soon. However, as Google is famous for its “beta” naming and limited test releases, that “pretty soon” state may be a few weeks, or even a few months, away.

For people needing more invitations, there are 50 Gmail invites, which keep refilling by themselves, available to anyone who lets me know their email address to send the invitation to.

The ramblings of the weird guy in the dark cream sweater02.17.05

“It’s very cold right now, it hasn’t been this cold since morning”, I heard a voice from my left.

I glanced in that direction and saw a guy smoking and walking toward me. He hadn’t taken a bath for days, it was apparent. He was wearing a dark cream sweater with blue jeans. He had probably been taking good notice of the weather since morning, or he was just acting himself. He stopped a few feet short of where I was leaning against a small wall. He continued talking, without trying to note if I was even looking at him or not.

Criticizing the Bush family for going into Iraq, and for not going into Iraq02.17.05

Someone was discussing President Bush going into Iraq and doing the wrong thing. That reminded me of something. People had criticized Bush Senior during his term for not going into Iraq to take out Saddam Hussein.

Now let us back off for a moment from any stand we have on this issue. Let’s not be Republicans or Democrats or Green Party advocates or associate ourselves with any party for a minute. Let us assume we come from the wilderness and have no idea about these parties, or that we belong to a group of bears that support no one but Winnie the Pooh and that we advocate peace. Now after we feel like we love bears and feel very cuddly, let us look at this issue. Bush seniors’ reasoning for not going into Iraq to take our Saddam Hussein was that if America went into Iraq, it would be the next Vietnam, where people would fight for their homeland. People fighting for their homeland fight a Guerilla warfare and there are no rules. It’s either getting the homeland back, or dying. One can argue that it is one of the purest forms of honor, to have such an emotion for ones’ country.

Now, today, and for the past few years, people have been criticizing President Bush “junior” for going into Iraq without a definite plan and not being able to withdraw, just as Kerry has been doing for a long time, criticizing his then-opponent’s plans.

Have the basic ideals changed, or have the people changed? Have our moral values shifted into different directions, or have we acquired more interest in values and emotions of other people also? Or do Presidents simply want to do the exact opposite of what the public wants them to do, or vice versa? You decide.

McDonalds, and the free Chicken Select02.16.05

On a recent trip to Berkeley, I had a chance to have breakfast at McDonalds. I was on a tight schedule, and had only a few minutes to spare to eat. That reason could get many people into trouble, I know.

Their McGriddles breakfast meal, costs almost four dollars. How big is the meal? I am happy [??] to say that the hash browns [they don't have hash inside of them, sorry] or brownies as some call it, are bigger than the main McGriddle themselves, when it’s supposed to be the exact opposite.

By the way, McDonalds is offering one free Chicken Select from February 17th to February 20th, 11am through 2 pm, at select stores. May be someone should start giving out free copies of Super Size Me also, somewhere, sometime.

Seeking god when searching for God02.12.05

I sit on Jet Blue, waiting for the drinks to come. It’s been a few minutes since the plane has been in the air. Some people watch the free DirecTV, while others chat with each other. You can hear them talking; “it’s been a hectic week, you can’t imagine.” I can imagine; its been a hectic life for many of us, yet not all of us are telling others about it. Many people can’t sit quietly for a few minutes; others can’t talk for more than a few minutes without going blank as to which topic to talk about next.

Many have seen god in their dreams; others have seen God in their dreams. Many seek god to find peace; others seek God in their conversations to find peace. It is a race for finding peace and happiness, away from the harsh reality of things around them. Whenever they cannot bear the responsibility of things and think that everything around them is unjustified and they cannot identify their own life, they sometimes seek (g)God. Then they need to let others know that they are seeking him. This is important, because many people cannot be satisfied with what they seek until they make sure others know about their search. May be they like others knowing about their activities, or may be they like others to know that they know what to do in life. Even female activists turn to him and not anyone who’s a “she” God from the ancient religions.

Let’s talk about finding our own satisfaction and goal in life thenseek these two things from a supernatural without depending on others, yet at the same time let’s tell about our plan to everyone around us, that we have started searching for a supernatural being and want to seek his approval. They don`t know for what the approval is for, but that doesn`t stop them. Let`s post about our search in our personal diaries as well as public diaries, letting everyone know that we are searching for god and are asking him for guidance. That way, we will have another entry in our diary, and at the same time, the need to quench the thirst of finding some means to an answer gets satisfied also. Better yet, let’s just tell everyone that we are seeking him for answers, and that we aren`t doing anything else other than complaining and crying, while saying at the same time that we aren`t complaining. Telling others about it will do the whole trick. All we need to do is to think we are asking him for help when we are in deep dirt, and when we are happily jumping around the fences, to focus only on the swings. Life, after all, is all about ourselves. Even the supernatural, to whom we claim we turn to for answers, can wait in the waiting lounge till his number comes up. That number will come up when we have no idea what is going on and we need an idea, of something invisible helping us, in our heads. Only then will we find peace, according to them, according to those for whom the whole idea of life depends on seeking the answers without knowing and trying to know what the question is, for that is the easy way out of everything in and out of life.

LiveJournal, Microsoft, & others02.04.05

Lots of people are switching over to using LiveJournal or Xanga from their own websites, to post about things. Many college students are using Myspace as a way to “hook” up with others and practicing the art of leaving “wazup” comment on every friends’ post there. Still, other people divide their postings between the two, calling one a diary and the other one a journal. Still, other people post completely on both, mimicking the entries on both of them as a way of supplementing each other. I personally have been offered and even “advised” to switch over. I think I will stay with the oldies for now. Use a single platform that is completely controlled, instead of two that aren’t, at least in my case, to do the same thing.

Kissui is offering 50 Gmail invites. Go and request one there if you are looking for an account with more storage than Yahoo and Hotmail combined.

An interesting link I saw over at Google today: “Nobody Wants Your Film” advertising its trailers.

If you are using Internet Explorer a lot, and would like your Windows system to remain patched, be ready to make all phone calls early next week if you are on a dial up. Microsoft is set to release at least 13 updates on February 8th, in response to the growing criticism by security firms that the software giant is late in releasing patches. That means that people who have been downloading movies for days will have to interrupt downloads if they wish to update; so sad, we know. The size of the updates is not yet known.

Looking at more news articles posted in the last few hours for the updates from Microsoft than the Tsunami, it seems fair that another post be added to the shrinking list of news articles related to the Tsunami except the main ones that keep updating on it every few hours. It seems that the Tsunami news is going to the back burner slowly, and finally for some. All the enthusiasm for helping and providing means of help is going away. Look at the latest news and you will find news postings focusing on Ray Charles release than the Tsunamis. Amazon.com’s Tsunami Donation scheme collected over 15 million dollar in less than 2 weeks. Now, there has been less than 1 million in donation for over 3 weeks. May be we are more concerned about Michael Jackson standing on trial now, or preparing for our taxes. May be we are focusing on the Oscars. Or better yet, may be we are all saving up for a good movie to come out so we can go see some good movie after a long time.
