Dancing Elmo & Black Friday11.22.04

People are focusing a lot on online shopping these days, with Black Friday fast approaching, and everyone going online more than ever before to do their shopping.

One of the interesting things to buy for someone in your family [or a friend] [that I have noticed because of a tv commercial] could be the new Dancing Elmo. Not only does Elmo dance, Elmo also spells out the lyrics as “E-L-M-O” in the tradition of YMCA. A demo of Elmo dancing can be seen here. By the way, as everyone knows, I know Elmo in real life, and no, I cannot setup any interviews, sorry.

Below is a picture I took in Oakland.

The current situation in Cobb County, GA., regarding the theory of evolution is taking a very long turn. It is not apparent yet as to whether this will continue turn back into the original direction it was going towards, or take an entirely new direction as its main destination. Schools in the county have taken action to place disclaimer labels on evolution textbooks.

ICANN implements new domain transfer policy between registrars11.12.04

ICANN recently implemented its policy of not requiring verification by the administrator or the registrar of a domain if a request has been issued for a domain transfer. This could be a major change implemented by ICANN, both for active webmasters, and those who have a web site as a side hobby.

Students spending more time on TV according to Student Monitor Studies11.09.04

According to a recent study by the Student Monitor, college students sat in front of the TV more during 2004 than in 2003. An average of 11.2 hours of TV programs are watched by students each week; in 2003, this number was around 10.9. Young males watched “Sportscenter,” “Chappelle’s Show,” and “South Park” the most, while young females prefer “The Real World,” “Will and Grace,” and “The O.C.” “The Simpsons” and “Friends” also came in the top 5 for each of the genders as one of the favorite shows. The study only covered the first half of both the years; thus, in reality, the time spent on watching TV should be much higher.

The study interviews/studied 1,200 students at 100 different campuses nationwide.

Following is a random image of the university from inside a campus building.

Japan Expo 2004 in Los Angeles, CA, USA11.09.04

The Japan Expo 2004 happens this month at the LA Convention Center, South Hall. The event is divided over the span of 2 days, November 27th & 28th. That means that your Thanksgiving plans must include this event if you have any plans for thanksgiving and wish to attend this expo also. The events start at 10 in the morning, and end by 7 and 6 PM [Saturday & Sunday respectively], so you would still have time to make it to any other appointments at night. There are dozens of events planned, including two “Jinzen Weddings”, “Japan Expo 2004 Honor” [may be "interesting" for some people], sushi roll event, auto show and more.

Woman in the Dunes (1964) - by Hiroshi Teshigahara11.07.04

Media Type : Dvd | Rating : 8.0 out of 10 | Watched on : A sand-free day in September, 2004

Release Date : January 4, 2000 [originally released in 1964] | New & Used DVD Price : $24.25 & up

Buy this DVD

This movie is one of the most interesting movies I have seen in this life. Out since 1964, this movie will show you a new boundary [unique to this day] of what you can achieve in a superb movie without the use of any digital special effects. You will be so much dragged into the atmosphere set in the movie that it will not be until someone else tells you that you will realize the entire movie is in numerous shades of black and white; no other colors are to be found anywhere in this classic suspense movie given its time frame of production and release. The portrait of the sand, the landscape, and the characters in almost every form possible is almost flawless; you can almost feel how it would really be to be in such a position, and the way that the sand is shown to approach you from all sides in every way possible, you almost get a feeling that you have had a real experience just like the one shown in your own real life, simply because of the way everything is shown in vivid motion in the entire movie. This movie can be used as the prime example as to why colors other than shades of black and white are not necessary to create a masterpiece.

Rain headed for everyone11.03.04

While Weather.com keeps reporting some showers headed for southern California this weekend, last weeks’ predictions that some days were filled with rains were very interesting; not only did it not rain all day as mentioned by the service on the days it was “supposed” to rain on, it did not rain at times reported by the service as “raining right now”, and on top of that, it did not rain at all last week on the days Weather.com reported to be filled with the rain. May be you can take the small and happy risk of leaving your umbrella in the car while you go out.

It is interesting to see vehicles with custom plate numbers; California has lots of them, many unique ones that you will be really surprised to find. It is also interesting to see plate numbers being customized to look unique, when in fact they may not be.

ICANN adds $0.25 to all domain name registrations11.02.04

The Internet Corporation For Assigned Names and Numbers [ICANN] has approved adding a $0.25 transaction fee to each domain name registration. This fee will be charged to the registrar; it is up to the registrar to charge the customers this fee [in addition to the current registration fees] or not.

More about this can be read online at the ICANN Adopted Fiscal Year 2004–2005 Budget, under the heading “Creating a Reserve Fund”. ICANN also details on how it proposes to invoice this additional charge.

Proposition 66 - third-strike out?11.01.04

The current Proposition 66 seeks to amend the current three-strike law and is a hotly debate issue right now. This law requires imprisonment up to 25 years of anyone found in violation of three consecutive felonies. Such a law enables the state to sentence criminals in such a way that there is almost no way to reverse the punishment they are sentenced to.
