Equilibrium goes a little bit along the line of The Matrix, though it has its own unique story line overall. The movie has some very good acting by Christian Bale, and the story line is very interesting. Set in the very near future, the whole world is a fascist society where emotions are outlawed. Without emotions, every person acts the same, like a robot from an assembly line. People take doses of a medication periodically during the day to keep any emotional behavior or sentiments away from themselves. People found in breach of this daily routine are sentenced to death and either shot to death during arrests and raids or cremated alive after being arrested. I am surprised this movie did not make the same or even a close impact such as The Matrix; however, this movie is one of the top rated movies of 2002.

I saw this movie on June 19th, 2004. The movie centers around a European traveler who comes to New York for a purpose. Even though many people around the web have been calling him an immigrant, that is wrong. He is not an immigrant in the movie. He plans to go back to his country throughout the movie, back to his home. The story line is simple, yet a bit unique [based on a true story, though under different circumstances]; a traveler arrives at the JFK airport to find that he cannot be allowed admission to the country because his home country has been under a coupe and now the traveler cannot enter the United States. He is told to stay within the airport until the situation resolves. The whole movie is around this whole experience and how Tom Hanks copes with this situation and how he meets different people and how in the end, he gets what he came to do.

Watching tv after midnight: an experience worse than torture06.27.04

Click to enlarge and visit this collection

Have you ever turned on the tv late after mid night to see if something was on? Have you been really bored and turned on the tv to relax and see some comedy, a movie or even infotainment [news which is presented like its entertainment], yet you find out that every channel is filled with advertisements for programs?

Why do we have to suffer with these programs that run more than two hours each, focussing on everything from real estate to making websites the retarded way [yes], selling vegetable pills [what the heck is that?] and marketing programs. Every night, KTLA 5, ABC 7 and all other channels have the same exact program running for weeks, after which they get replaced by other similar programs.

This movie came straight to video instead of hitting the theaters, which is interesting. The movie takes the viewers through many different horizons and landscapes, and takes them through the classic tales of the Arabian Nights in one fairy tale that is very seducing from the moment you start to watch it. The movie revolves around a sort of crazed ruler who has been betrayed by his wife, and he no longer trusts women. In a desperate attempt to save his sanity, he decides to takes the insane step of marrying every woman in the city, one by one, and the morning that follows the wedding night, has them beheaded. All the women in the city who know about this plan are in a frenzy, including the dozens of women waiting to be his wife, one by one. At this time of desperation, the daughter of the Vizir [Prime Minister to some of you] takes on the task of ridding the supposed “mad man” of his madness and show him the true meaning of love.

Microsoft to increase Hotmail disk storage06.23.04

Microsoft has decided to increase the storage limits for Hotmail just like Yahoo Mail and Google’s Gmail. Hotmail will now offer 250 mb of disk space for free accounts, compared to the current 2 mb, and 2 GB for its paid accounts, compared to the current 10 mb. These increases in disk space have surely come to surface after Google’s surprising Gmail service was announced and shortly after Yahoo announced the upgrades to its Yahoo Mail disk space options..

The addition in disk space for Hotmail should go into effect in early July. This may make your decision to switch over from your current email account from any of these services to the other a bit harder than before.

Shipping & handling charges - service & labor charges included secretly06.23.04

Have you ever wondered about services which you order for a trial and find out that the company claims to charge no service fee other than shipping & handling charges? What is a handling charge? Is that not the service fee charge similar to a labor fee for carrying and packaging the product? Is there no profit in the total amount of charge? Ask a company if they earn any profit over their “shipping & handling” charges, and see what they say.

Soma: The Divine Hallucinogen by David Spess - ISBN # 089281731306.23.04

Soma: The Divine Hallucinogen by David SpessMedia Type : Book | Rating : 5.0 out of 10 | Read on : May 28th, 2004

This book is mostly based on the ancient texts which are not present today in a physical form other than references in current books, such as this one. The book focuses on the concept of a plant being used as a hallucination agent to generate hallucination within a being and come up with thoughts and ideas which would otherwise be, without such a hallucination, very difficult to even imagine about. The book takes on, indirectly, the major religions and ideas in the world today, dating back all the way to the start of humanity itself. Spess tells us his views, showing us a connection he thinks is vital to the origin of religion itself, and how this “Soma” plant was responsible for causing the priests and noble people in the past to gain extra-ordinary powers and see angels and perform miracles.

Baraka - Ron Fricke - Mpi Home Video06.22.04

Media Type : DVD | Rating : 7.5 out of 10 | Watched on : May 26thth, 2004

Release Date : September 25th, 2001 | New & Used DVD Price : $14.99 & $13.99

This movie-documentary combo was released in 1992. Very few movies have the power to pull the viewer into the movie and make them feel a part of the movie itself. Baraka is such a movie. It is a journey through 24 different countries, all from different parts of the world and shows us the very surprising connections between many different cultures and people in the world. Baraka means “blessing” in many languages, and that is the purpose of the movie itself; to give you like a blessing through the enriched experience this movie will take you through. Shot on a Todd AO-70mm film, Baraka takes you on a visual journey which needs no special effects, nor any special costumes or background sets to give you something that no cgi-enriched sci-fi movie can you give; reality, something we have right in our own world. We do not need another planet or another galaxy or a virtual world to enjoy these views; we have them right in front of us.

Selling your stuff on ebay, half.com and Amazon.com06.22.04

[Listening to: Desert Rose (Long Club Remix) - Brand New Day - Sting - (09:19)]

If you are worried about Half.com being integrated into Ebay and then charging you for listing fees also, you can relax now. Ebay has extended its deadline for the transition until October 14th.

As for paying the fees then, you have Amazon.com among other places. Try listing your stuff there for free for 15 days [after which you can relist it again for free for another 15 days, and so on]. It should help fill the gap that Half.com’s dissapearance may make.

Around the World in 80 days by Disney & other fantasies06.22.04

[Listening to: Beautiful Things (Gabriel & Dresden Unplugged Mix) - Andain - (10:54)]

I went to see “Around the World in 80 Days” last night with a special ticket again [around 6 hours ago]. I only went to see the movie because Jackie Chan [Fogg's valet] was in it. For fans who are into the around the world movies from before, this may not be along the exact story lines, as the Fogg portrayed in this character is nowhere close to the original Fogg that Pierce Brosnan played in the “Around the World in 80 Days (Miniseries)” on TV. Then again, Disney may have intended to make this movie a typical funny comedy expected from Disney movies instead of a classic journey. This was an adventure with Jackie Chan doing all the work and Fogg enjoying all the benefits.
