Verisign in the spotlight, bringing ICANN into spotlight02.28.04

ICANN has been sued by VeriSign, alleging that ICANN prevented new features from being added to the .com and .net registry.

How can forcing every failed domain request redirect to a site service, owned by VeriSign, spreading commercial services of VeriSign, be an innovation? What is wrong with the current system of a domain name not being display when it is typed incorrectly? Why would we want to be taken to a site if we mistype a domain name, or type a domain name which does not exist, and get confused that the site we are being redirect to is the actual site at that domain name address?

Let the Internet remain a medium of free speech, and a virtual land of commercial oppurtunities.

Gas prices cross $202.24.04

Welcome to the new millenium.

The gas prices have crossed the $2, congratulations everyone for your support.

We would like to thank each other for making sure that we took proper steps to make sure that we maintain a gas price which we an afford daily, and to make sure that everyone in the society sleeps at night without hunger. We would also like to thank all the gas stations for trying their best to keep minimum prices so that their fellow neighbors can get the best prices possible without any inconvinience.

Any inquiries for diesel cars should wait. Any inquiries for hybrid cars should wait also, since we still have lots of oil remaining inside the belly of this earth to be exploited and sold. After that is done, we will move on to see how a hybrid car can be the future $$.

The Paris Hilton video-affair02.23.04

Someone filed a claim in the court today that Paris Hilton helped direct her own video and it was done with her full approval, asking the judge to dismiss the original case. Would Hilton have gotten this much attention if the video had not been leaked, and would she have gotten approval for season two of her show on tv? Who knows; maybe everyone does.

Is it not time to forget about this and move on? Is this publicity stunt not going a bit too far into giving Hilton all the attention she needs? Who would have cared about her had this video never have surfaced? Negative publicity is also good publicity for some people.

Where did the sunny days go? Raining like crazy in California02.22.04

A picture to remind us of the days when the sun was here:

I am not waiting for it desperately, though.

Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse02.22.04

[as I posted somewhere else on the web]

Hello.

Here is an interesting site:

CrazyHorse.org

It is a sculpture that will be the biggest in the world. It is being built as a response to Mt. Rushmore, which was made over the actual “holy lands” of the native Americans.

These native Americans approached one of the same people who made Mt. Rushmore to help make this statue to show that their culture will never die, which the native Americans think the Mt. Rushmore was trying to show [that by building on your Holy Lands, we are showing you our might], according to the native Americans.

As they said [on the above website]:

“My fellow chiefs and I would like the white man to know the red man has great heroes, too.” - Lakota Chief Henry Standing Bear’s invitation in 1939

This is a very interesting fact and piece of history that I learned from a friend [Dennis]; thank you.

The Feds going after piracy, the RIAA contiuing to sue people and now getting countersued02.21.04

Now that the FBI wants to ride on the wagon to chase file-swappers, it is time for everyone to rethink what they are doing before downloading the next illegal [aka not-purchased] file from the internet through a file-sharing software.

How the current administration helped curb the spam, or increase it…02.20.04

It was a day of victory, according to many. The famous anti-spam law was signed in December, 2003. Everyone who supported the law said it will help achieve the results sought by almost the majority of the people who were victims of spam. However, more than two months into the law, and there is more spam than there was before the law was signed.

As I had said before, the spammers are now actually rejoicing, sending so much spam that you’d wish that no one sent you any important email, so that you could delete everything in your inbox than to sort through it everyday, looking for one important email out of more than two hundred emails. More ironic is the fact that all these spammers are happily identifying themselves, telling users that they can unsubscribe through snail mail or an email. Of course, majority of the snail mail addresses are postal boxes, so you can find who they actually are and the post office will not release any records without a government investigation in progress.

Below is an example of including the address and contact information as a way of saying “We are not doing anything wrong”; let this be a lesson to everyone who jumps on wagon to every law signed by someone you like. Think before you act, and think about the action itself. This law is so far not effective; period. Hopefully it will be over time, with a miracle of course.

Hollywood is happy for now02.20.04

Hollywood today got one of its first victories of the year in its race to push out majority of the piracy of its movies within the United States and abroad. Judge asks company to stop copying Hollywood. A federal court ruled that the controversial, yet a “dream” for many, software that lets users copy DVDs onto their computers should be halted from production. The parent company of the software, 321 Studios, is disappointed, yet it is not giving up.

End of Kazaa spotlight everywhere, somehow, anyone?

Au-revoir Sprint - Get more02.20.04

The porting of the number from Sprint over to T-mobile successfully, hopefully, completed today. The process started yesterday morning with the new phone from T-mobile starting the switch around 5 am.

Throughout the day, both the new and the previous cell phone and service worked. I received some calls on one service, and some on another. I could make calls from both cell phones.

Today, everything is working fine. Sprint is long gone. Four years was I with Sprint, and I was happy that I left them. I should have left them earlier, if the number porting had been possible before.

Total time taken to port the number successfully was less than three business days.

Off-topic : Now that Microsoft is going after people downloading source code via file networks, should people who distribute other file types be worried? For now, you should just keep an eye out for upcoming news. Next, it maybe Hollywood and then image copyright issues stemming upon Kazaa and others.
